We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsea Shackel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chelsea, what do you attribute your success to?
As an entrepreneur, like most, I’ve pursued countless endeavors in various fields. Some I’ve chalked up as failures, others shocking successes. When I first started taking the entrepreneurial route in life my mind was very money focused. I first researched what made other entrepreneurs money, and tried to follow their exact journey. I have this method to thank for most of my failures. What later clicked for me, and try to cultivate in all ventures, is how I can make something personal to me. If I dive into something I am passionate about, mold it to encompass who I am personally, the hard part becomes easy. My personal brand online has been one of my most lucrative businesses, as this encompasses my passions of making people laugh, video production, and screen writing. As long as I’m staying authentic to me, my values, my morals, my passions, it’s much easier to stay consistent, inspired and avoid burnout. Consumers can sense inauthenticity, and if you aren’t careful you can easily lose credibility.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a creative through and through, my artistic medium varies across the board from marketing, video production and comedy, to physical art such as drawing and painting. I am mostly known for my online work, creating content for businesses, and performing skits/ one liners on Tiktok. As the realm of improv comedy has popularized on the app, it’s difficult to set yourself apart from the others. I like to think my secret weapon is my consistency. Anyone can get an idea for a funny video capable of going “viral”, but being able to keep that spotlight on them is the tricky part. At this point id consider myself only a micro-influencer, however, when the time comes that a larger audience finds me, I already have the ability to keep the flow moving. Humor is something that comes natural to me so I will always be able to stay consistent. This standard I hold for my personal brand has given me the tools to represent myself as an ideal content creator for small businesses. Social media marketers are a dime a dozen these days, but not many have an impressive online presence. I believe this is what best sets me aside from them. Getting to this point wasn’t an overnight miracle, but since the work aligns with my passions, it was easy for me to put in the work. I want the world to know that you can do anything you put your mind to, of course, but remember what they say, “if you do something you love, you won’t work a day in your life”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Unlike most Arizona natives, I’m not much of an outdoorsy girl, and neither are my friends. This being said, our ideal itinerary would consist of cocktail lounges, spa treatments and “micro” outdoor activities. An ideal weekend night would consist of a fine dining experience followed by cocktails. Rough Rider, Buck & Rider, Fat Ox, Masteros Ocean Club and Thea are some of my favorite spots. The new Global Ambassador Hotel is by far the hottest spot at the moment, Thea is their upstairs restaurant/bar. Their delicious Mediterranean bites, craft cocktails, and unobstructed rooftop view would make this the perfect spot to entertain out of town guests. As for nightlife, my clubbing days are long over. However, if I’m seeking a night cap I’ll grab drinks at locations such as Flint Rooftop, Palma, or MercBar. Since I won’t be taking guests on hikes, our outdoor activities will consist of walking the Scottsdale Quarter to shop, having lunch and cocktails on the patio at Zinc bar, and hanging by the pool at Lylo Swim Club. Another great day would consist of lunch at The Canal Club located in The Scott Resort, followed by a lounge by their pool. Scottsdale has a large selection of resorts for spa treatments, Omni Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Montelucia being my favorite. If you don’t fancy a spa treatment, aren’t a guest with a room, but want the resort experience, I recommend downloading the ResortPass app. On the app you can purchase day passes to resort pools around the valley. Most importantly, no out-of-towner comes to my house without an obligatory stop at an in-n-out burger.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My dad, James Shackel, was someone I’ve always admired, as his goofy sense of humor could warm the coldest room. I have him to thank for my effortless wit and as he would say “superior genes”. Growing up, id watch the way he could crack a joke to anyone he encountered. Sometimes it was the barista at Starbucks, sometimes the grumpy gate agent at the airport, most times my family and I. If someone seemed bored, frustrated, sad, or any negative leaning emotion, you could see the wheels turning and out comes an effortless one-liner. The way he would shift a persons energy was magic to me. Unfortunately, he passed away early 2022 to cancer, and the world became a little less funny. Although he left entirely too large of shoes to fill (size 14 to be exact), I will strive to bring joy and laughter to the world in the way he did. If I’ve made a video that has even just cracked a smile on someone’s face, my goal is complete and I have him to thank.
