We had the good fortune of connecting with Misae Camilleri and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Misae, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born and raised as my parents second daughter in Saitama, Japan which is next to Tokyo. Ever since I was little, I had passion for colors and nails.
I decided to become a nail artist when I was in high school and went to beauty college for 2 years to learn about nails.
After I graduated from college, I started working at a nail salon called esNAIL in Shibuya, Tokyo. They had 8 or 9 salons in Japan and 2 salons in Los Angeles at that time.
I had an opportunity to work at one of their salons in Los Angeles in 2016. That is the reason why I ended up moving to the U.S.
I have worked in Los Angeles for 4 years with esNAIL. After the pandemic happened, I moved to Arizona but I couldn’t find any nail salons that offer Japanese Gel Nails so I decided to build my own nail studio to provide high-quality gel nails.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am very excited about showing people my nail art skills! I love listening to my client’s ideas and put them together on such small spaces.

I learned a lot in college and from some mentors when I just became a nail tech.
It needed lots of practice like drawing a straight line on curvey nails was not easy for me at first. Imagination is very important too, like what colors go well together. Some color combinations come up in my head sometimes and I get design ideas from fashion trends too like trend colors and patterns because nails are part of fashion.

I want the world to know about I love doing nail art but at the same time I care about my client’s nail condition too so I use high quality gel products which are less damaging and longer lasting. Japanese Gel Nails are known internationally as being highest in quality. For example, color gels are high in pigment, this is how I can provide detailed hand paint nail art.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am still new to Arizona so I don’t know lots of places but I’d love to go to Cottonwood. I’ve heard there are wineries so I would take my best friend there and do some wine tasting! Maybe we can go check Sedona and do some hikes too since it’s close to each other:)

I like hanging out in Old Town Scottsdale because it’s always pretty.

And KASAI Scottsdale has really good Japanese Teppanyaki so I would take my best friend there:) There’s also a good Japanese restaurant called Sushi Sen and One of my favorite American restaurant called Houston’s! So many options!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to bring esNAIL Los Angeles team. Especially the CEO Mr. Toshiki Komatsu. He gave me lots of advice before starting my own business. I also appreciate my husband. I still have language barrier sometimes so he is a big help.
