We had the good fortune of connecting with Christopher Bailey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christopher, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
Because my brand is about recycling and upcycling old things into new things, the most important lesson that I have learned is that the recycling symbol is also a representation of the energy in your life. Exactly what you put out will come right back to you and that is why it is important to have compassion for others.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I will start by saying I am not where I want to be yet, but I will accomplish that state of being in my future. Nothing is easy when you have a unique concept. In my experience it almost seems that the people with the most basic ideas often get the most recognition, while those of us who go above and beyond really have to fight to be seen. That is a challenge in itself. Being able to keep your mentality positive as an underdog is always a challenge. I’ve learned that time will tell and those who are persistent will succeed. I want the world to know that I made this brand for the WORLD. It was designed to make people understand their own individuality, what makes them unique and that we all have a past just like the garments.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I was going to take my friend out in phoenix, I would take them to the bins where i thrift for clothes because you can’t stop the hustle. I love to go to the museum. SMoca is a frequent spot of mine, they always have some cool installations. Wonderspace at Fashion Square is also one of my new favorite places to go and find some inspiration for my creativity.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ve gotta give a big shout out to all of the members of Habitat Studios (official and unofficial) and the people who have supported me and us thus far. I want to also give a shout out to all of my mentors in the industry that have given me real life advice about how to carry myself through my brand. My grandma deserves the biggest shout out of them all for raising me the right way and encouraging me to stay focused on my art throughout the years.
