We had the good fortune of connecting with Chuck Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chuck, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I am a retired Airforce Firefighter – retired commodities trader – I attended U Of P achieved my MBA after completing my B of A at Arizona State. I worked for many years for a good company – I’m happy to say I achieved many of my personal goals; life was good. However, it was time for a new adventure, and I wanted to do something I enjoyed for the next chapter of my life. I picked up a camera I soon realized I was hooked. After putting my and my partner Dee’s skills together, we realized that we could offer a genuine product and services, and we are good at it; bonus, it was something we enjoyed doing. We live and breathe this stuff. So our company Adventurepiece came about.

My mission is to inspire you to explore, create, and share everything art, photography, and life while learning, growing, and creating together and still enjoying my life. Living is what I wanted to do; I had calculated how long I spent in stoplights getting to somewhere for someone other than myself and said enough, there has to be a better way. So I created mine.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
You know, when you see a photograph on Facebook or Instagram that blows you away emotionally, it runs you over for one reason or another. Still, the photographer doesn’t tell you where the photograph was taken? So irritating! I have stopped following people online because of this. Why do they want to tease me with their favorite spot? Why?

I am telling you this because what I’m about to say is the closest I’ve been to being guilty of this myself—not wanting to tell anyone. Not wanting to draw the crowds there, but this secret is already out. It’s the White Mountains of Arizona. And by the way, I will always tell you where the photograph was taken.

I have lived in Phoenix (base of South Mountain), Prescott, Flagstaff, and Payson. No other area compares to the White Mountains. In my opinion, it’s the Yellowstone of Arizona. Yellowstone may have Lamar Valley, but we have Lee Valley minus the brown bears and moose. I’m OK with that.

Living in the Phoenix Valley for ten years (back in the ’90s), I think I made two trips to the White Mountains over that span. We rented a gorgeous cabin at Lake of the Woods in Pinetop-Lakeside, and the other time was a trip to a friend’s cabin. Both times left a memorable impression. But why only two visits? Was it too far? It wasn’t, and the great thing is it still isn’t! The Phoenix Valley drive to the White Mountains is only 30 minutes longer than going to Flagstaff. Don’t get me wrong, I love Flagstaff and will always visit there, but I want you to be informed.

So about this drive, there are some spots on the drive to the White Mountains that can be breathtaking. Have you heard of the Mogollon Rim? How about Payson, Christopher Creek, or Forest Lakes? That’s a long route you could take from the valley. How about Roosevelt Lake or Salt River Canyon? That’s yet along another path. I love this state!

The White Mountains are everything I love about Arizona. I could go on and on, but I’m a photographer, not so much a writer. However, I could tell you about the safari vibe that permeates the area, or better yet, I could tell you about how wild, wet, rugged, and gorgeous this area is. But I won’t. I will let the Arizona White Mountains speak for themself.

The White Mountains and Arizona – New Mexico border is the second-highest range in the state. The range is dotted with mountain lakes and streams. Camping and fishing are plentiful in this high mountain area with several stocked lakes, and most years, there is sufficient snow for snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and downhill skiing at Sunrise Park Resort.
The towns of Pinetop-Lakeside and Springerville-Eagar along the northern edge of the range provide the most popular access points. They have plenty of hotels and restaurants.
The White Mountains are 220 miles east of Phoenix and 250 miles north of Tucson. Their relative isolation along the eastern border of Arizona means you’ll be able to enjoy some solitude.
