We had the good fortune of connecting with Claudia Garza and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Claudia, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I have seen myself grow as a person and as a theater actress, where I started, throughout all these years that I have had a lot of roles and characters to play. Everything started with the risk of choosing my career. In particular, this carrier has a lot of risks that you have to face at every opportunity and every day, the first one is making the decision to study arts. I have interpreted all sorts of characters, from pool dancing, smoking, giving birth, and having to cry for a long time while keeping the tension of the scene and the character. One of the plays that I could say has made the most impact in my carrier would be “Litoral” by Wajdi Muoawad where I had to act as a dying mother, and Josephine the girl that carries the book of all the people that died in that country.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The best thing about this carrier is that you never stop learning. It has taken 12 years of my life with its ups and downs, begging in theater plays was what gave me the greatest impulse with goals, and objectives that I wanted to achieve in the short and long run. Thanks to this I was prepared for all types of auditions like advertising, casting for television, series, and casting short films, until I landed on my first feature with the leading role. It has been a challenge to keep going when you know your competition, and some doors are not that easy to open when at first not many people know you enough to give you a chance. To be an artist is to be brave, you must have the motivation to keep going when it looks like you should give up, this is why I feel proud of everything I have accomplished so far in spite of the challenges I have faced. I can tell you that if you maintain humility and wish to be a storyteller you will achieve anything you set your mind on, success will be the result of your effort.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to visit and try the food of a small town just outside my city called Villa de Santiago, which is still within my state. There is a restaurant called Las Palomas, we would eat there and afterward, we could go for a walk so that they can see the center. I would take them to my city’s downtown to walk around the Macroplaza and see all the historical places like museums, and the stream of water Santa Lucía and take photos in the Sanborns coffee. We would eat carne asada, which is our style and way of preparing barbecue, but in this case in the famous restaurant San Carlos. For our last place to visit, I would take them to our Mirador del Obispado where we have our Mexican flag, it has an amazing view and it is part of our history.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First of all God, my family, my friends, and most of all myself for not giving up.
