We had the good fortune of connecting with Cole Peterson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cole, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
Being a free-lance artist is a feast or famine. Sometimes it can be weeks or months with no commissions or work. Other times you could be drowning in work with no breaks. In the down times don’t stop producing works, one it will develop your skills as an artist. Two you never know it might be something that could printed and sold to receive some extra income until the big projects come rolling in.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art- I work in mixed mediums, pencil, ink, marker, watercolor, some pastels, and digital. Generally will do my layouts in Photoshop and once a have the art where I want it, I’ll print and transfer it to a final paper. Most of my clients like my approach because even though they will get a digital final work to use in what ever format they will also have a true original that can be framed as well.
How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy?
Drawing and painting in any medium is therapy for me. It started when i was about 6 years old, was on my own at 16 to figure out life and without much guide to navigate.
Art is my process for working through and dealing with ranges of emotions from the good to the bad, but art has always carried me through it. Even if I wasn’t able to sell it, I will continue to produce art because it’s apart of me.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife Noel Thiesing and my father Brent Peterson. Both have always been supportive and very encouraging in my art and schooling.
