We had the good fortune of connecting with Collin Stevic and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Collin, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Being an independent musician, success for myself means exploring new paths in the music community and honestly just always having fun. The most important factor behind my success would be my passion for creating music and collaborating with others. Some of my best ideas come when working together with a variety of people from different backgrounds, cultures, and music influences. Social media has been essential in establishing connections with musicians and producers across the world. I also have found success in connecting with local musicians and producers in order to perform my music live at social gatherings, clubs, and bars.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a musician and music producer, I mainly compose instrumental hip-hop, lo-fi, and chill-hop music. My music has been listened to world-wide on platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. These platforms have also placed me on popular editorial playlists like Spotify’s Mellow Beats Playlist and Apple Music’s BEATstrumentals Playlist, which reach millions of listeners globally. This was all made possible by my drive to keep pushing myself in various ways, whether this meant finding new artists to collaborate with, performing live at bigger venues, or exploring different ways of creating music.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely take them to the Pemberton Phx, which I have had the opportunity to perform at multiple times this year, since the chill atmosphere/vibe provides a unique outdoor experience. There are tons of delicious food-trucks as well as entertainment, craft beers, and cocktails. Other places I love to get a drink at would include Valley Bar, The White Rabbit speakeasy, and Postinos Wine Bar. We could grab dinner at The Sicilian Butcher for handmade pasta/meatballs or get some burgers at Santan Brewing Company.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to shoutout Brunch Collect and Funcc, who are both independent records labels! They have been instrumental to my success by promoting my releases, distributing my music, and providing constructive feedback. Brunch Collect is based in Phoenix and was the first label that I worked with. They have always supported my passion and provided me with opportunities to perform live throughout the valley. Funcc is another label that has not only released my music, but has expanded my network of musicians to collaborate with globally.
