We had the good fortune of connecting with Corey McGrath and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Corey, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
What makes you happy and why?

I am happy when I am doing photography. In those moments I feel as though I’m able to show the true beauty that this world can be. I notice that sometimes, in life. We get very busy, due to this, some people forget to take a moment for themselves. We also forget to look around, and remember the beauty that is this blue planet of ours. There are many beautiful things in this world of ours; animals, nature, city scapes, sky views, and many more different views. There are many examples of this beauty, pets can even a part of this beauty, snow on the mountains, views from a lookout on a mountain of the city, even beautiful city views from a mall. You never know when and where inspiration for a photo will come! Maybe you look at your pet, and they see a beautiful moment, maybe a rainy day becomes a beautiful wet window shot or a beautiful street shot. So many different areas can become a beautiful place to do a photo shoot.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am self taught other than tips and tricks from family, and friends. There are a couple of photos I always return to when I need to be reminded what I’m trying to achieve when taking my pictures. I also use those photos whenever I am having an off day to remind myself that photography is my passion, and just because its an off day doesn’t mean I can’t do what I love anymore. It has been hard more for the fact that getting clients is very difficult, you need to appeal to the right market which can be large obstacle. Who am I trying to reach? What do I need to present to get to said market? How do I stay relevant? These are things to consider when you try to start marketing yourself. I have learned anything can become a beautiful moment that can be captured, and there is beauty in everything no matter what. the things I want people know about me and the brand I want to start is that I am here and you can contact me to get a photoshoot set up.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A friend not from the area could expect some really fun times! Day one we could find ourselves out at the Arizona Desert Museum, and for food we could visit Street Taco Company in the downtown area.
Day two we would explore the Reid Park Zoo, and surrounding park area, as a fun food option we could go to Tucson Tamale Company restaurant, they sell the best Tamales.
Day three we would go up Mount Lemon stopping at different points to see the beautiful views, as well as going to Summerhaven where we would eat at the sawmill restaurant.
Day four could be a more relaxed, and be a shopping day, going to La Encantada Mall, and have our food at AJ’s.
Day five would be a day for Colossal Cave, and go to The Blue Willow.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank my family, by this I mean my partner, and his family. I’d like to also like to thank my mother. My mother has always seen my love for photography from day one. Through my mother I have always had access to a camera when I wanted to use one. She has also been there to teach me so of her tips and tricks to get a better shot through the cameras that she has used. My partner, and his family have always supported me doing my photography, taking the time to allow me to set up, and actually do my photoshoots during our outings to the mountains, Arizona Desert Museum, parks, zoos, and any other places we go. My partner has also taken course in order to help start my business, and my brother in law has taken classes to become a manager of the business.
