We had the good fortune of connecting with Cynthia & Ceci Astorga and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cynthia & Ceci, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
For years we had our hearts set on starting our own design company, but there was never an opportune time to get it off the ground. We were also struggling with the idea of how to make our company stand out amongst hundreds of other design companies in Arizona. We just could not find our footing in the design world.

Then, the pandemic hit and like many others, we were laid-off from our jobs. Oddly, the pandemic was a blessing in disguise. Staying home allowed us the time to clear our heads and with it brought us courage to start our business. It came with its hurdles though, because people were being advised to stay home and quarantine as much as possible. We couldn’t find clients who felt comfortable having a design crew come into their homes for weeks at a time. We knew there were many clients who needed our design help, but how could we reach out to them.

That’s when the Virtual Interior Design idea was born. With the advantages of Zoom, online shopping and interior design softwares, we were able to provide design services virtually to clients around the nation, not just Arizona! Having an e-commerce design business makes more sense too. We have little overhead costs and we are able to price our services at a fraction of the cost of traditional interior design. From this mentality came our business motto: Design is for everyone!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We’re a fully virtual interior design firm. This allows us to work with clients nationwide. We are not a traditional design firm in the sense of charging an hourly rate; we offer a flat rate per room design which make us approachable and affordable.

We are proud to be able to design for clients of all budgets. We hold true to our motto that “Design is for EVERYONE.” Everyone deserves a beautiful and thoughtfully designed home no matter your budget.

We work hard everyday to continue to put our design out there. Our biggest challenge is getting people to know about us. Social media has been our savior. Not only do we get to meet new clients but we also make new friends with fellow designers. We love being able to bounce ideas off each other and motivate each other to create the next best design.

Our Habit Haus journey has taught us that every client wants to tell their story. We make sure to honor their story through their home design. We don’t just design a pretty space, we collaborate with our clients to make each design unique and personalized. Our top priority is to make our clients feel involved throughout the process.

We want the world to know that working with Habit Haus is fun! We make the process of designing easy and approachable. Everyone can have great design habits when they work with us! We’re always excited to start new projects and make our clients happy.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We have too many favorite spots, but we’ll keep it short!

Good eats – CHANTICO on Camelback and 10th Street. Amazing Mexican food, cocktails and a beautiful atmosphere.

Great Coffee – DESEO COFFEE SHACK on McDowell Rd. and 24th Street [Designed by Habit Haus!] has a well-rounded coffee menu plus many Mexican inspired coffee drink specialties as well. Their coffee truly is a gem!

Gorgeous Historic Neighborhoods – BIKE RIDING IN THE HISTORIC NEIGHBORHOODS. Since we live in downtown Phoenix, we love taking our bikes through the Historic neighborhoods and sight-seeing homes. The best time to cruise on bikes is in February when Willow Historic Neighborhood holds their annual Home Tour. Great music, food trucks galore, vendors and of course gorgeous homes to visit. We’ve made many a friends at the Home Tours!

Goodnight Cocktails – PLATFORM 18 @ Century Grand on Indian School Rd. and 35th Street. [Designed by our Interior Design Professor, Coreen Golab]. A Pullman-inspired train car has been glamorously decorated to provide a full immersive train ride experience while you relax and enjoy specialty cocktails. This bar is in a class by itself!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Our family and friends have always believed in our creativity and design efforts. They are the ones who constantly remind us of that when we start having self-doubts. Also, we are extremely grateful to our design professor and Interior Design Program Director at Phoenix College, Coreen Golab. She taught us much of what we know as designers and has also been a constant motivation and inspiration herself.
