We had the good fortune of connecting with Dani Christakos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dani, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started The AZ Flower Garage after realizing there was a real creative need in our community! I had stayed home with my kids for 17 years and I was really missing a creative outlet myself. When my eldest left for college, I decided I was going to start a business doing something I always loved, flower arranging! I remember when I started hosting events I would see the pure joy in people when they spent two hours doing something creative with friends. At the end everyone leaves really happy with their beautiful arrangements. It is really rewarding to see people gain confidence during the class! I have a group that comes almost monthly because they enjoy it so much. I have now created a space where people love to gather and enjoy each other while creating at the same time! It is a win win!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think what sets my business apart from others is that I have created a really fun space for people to come and enjoy feeling creative! It is a welcoming space that people always look forward to coming back to. I also think that my style is different than most. I have a love for very unique flowers and textures and combining elements and colors that some may not think of putting together. I have learned that it is important in flower arranging to take risks and try new things. New designs keep things interesting for me! I never like to make the same arrangment twice! We are really excited to be expanding in 2023 into a new larger studio space in North Scottsdale where we will have the opportunity to fit larger groups. It is a great activity for team bondings or client appreciations! Everyone loves flowers!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oooh for sure we would start with dinner at Buck and Rider! It is my absolute favorite restaurant in the Valley! We would probably do a morning hike and then a late breakfast at Hash Kitchen where they have the best Mimosa flights! After that a little shopping in Scottsdale. If it isn’t too hot, maybe a bike ride down the Greenbelt. If we had a free day, we would definitely be driving to Sedona!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I think it was really my Dad that lead me to start this business! My Dad was Dutch and many summers growing up we would go to visit our family in Holland. I remember always loving the flowers there and really believe that connection brought me to my love for florals. My Dad always believed in me, so when he passed away, I really had the inspiration to follow my dreams and start my own business. My love for flowers is so great that my girls middle names are Rose and Violet!
