We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniel and Liana Costa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daniel and Liana, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
We started On The Bit Inc. (OTB) to share our passion for Arabian and Half-Arabian horses. At the farm, we provide championship-level care and training to these incredible equine athletes and their riders. That means helping to create a bond, setting an intention, and working together to accomplish the goal. Usually, this means training hard and winning big at local or National competitions. OTB is an Arabian Horse Association Discovery Farm, so people can stop by, meet the horses, and watch the trainers as they give daily lessons.

What should our readers know about your business?
On The Bit, Inc. fulfills a lifelong mission set by Daniel Costa as a teen, but it wasn’t until he met his wife, Liana Costa, that the vision took off. With Daniel’s horsemanship and Liana’s business management and accounting background, their mutual drive and talents brought the idea to life. It has not been easy, as starting a company is never simple, but when you love your work, even the hard parts are worth it. The main idea behind the brand is to spread joy. Horses are amazing, majestic animals who love people as much as we love them. Simply co-existing with a horse for a few minutes can improve how someone feels, and sharing their happiness while having a fun ride is even better.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
On The Bit, Inc. visits Scottsdale annually for the Greatest Horse Show on Earth, the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show. It is at Westworld, a large equestrian park with eleven arenas. The two-week-long show is held every February, and we invite all our friends along with us. The focus is on the event, and we all pick which classes (meaning the individual competitive events) to attend and when to visit the shopping expo. Watching the competition is the most fun part of the experience, cheering on our friends and clients and enjoying the beautiful horses at their peak. For offsite adventures, we generally pick a few fine-dining restaurants and diners in advance and head there when it’s time to refuel. We like Zinc Bistro for its delicious souffle and Dominick’s Steakhouse. Butter’s is our go-to breakfast spot; it’s a mecca that powers you through the day.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
On The Bit Inc. wants to give a massive shout-out to our Head Trainer, Leigha Perry, whose dedication, expertise, and talent drives our training program. Trainer Jonathan Ramsay of Stachowski Farms has also been incredible, providing outstanding training to our horses and riders. The Arabian Horse Association’s Judges School was vital to building a solid foundation. It helped us to understand the rules, what the judges are looking for, and how to identify the critical components of a successful ride. The ability to use this information to train our horses and clients has been a pillar of our success.
