We had the good fortune of connecting with Dave Streen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dave, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor to the success of EdgyTools, LLC is marketing with a personal touch. Joe Polish of Genius Network and I Love Marketing in Tempe, AZ has personally taught me and helped thousands other successful entrepreneurs learn to market their companies with his ELF™ strategy. ELF is an acronym for Easy, Lucrative, and Fun. My other companies were always very corporate and prim and proper. That was boring and cold so I went the complete opposite direction with EdgyTools. Our target market is men who work on cars so we have a lot of fun with innuendoes and silly cartoon versions of our mascot (Edgy Gator). Our clients absolutely love the refreshing and fun brand and they tell us so every day. We also focus on the personal touch. We send personal hand written notes out with most of our order and always try to do something extra and unexpected. We have an unfair advantage of this being a hobby that turned into a business. It was never about the money or bottom line profits. It has always been about learning, sharing, having fun and delivering the best possible products and services to our friends! We truly love our customers and the Automotive Paintless Dent Repair industry we serve!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
EdgyTools created a micro-niche in an already tiny niche known as P.D.R. which stands for Paintless Dent Repair and is the process of removing dents from Automobiles without the need for conventional body work or paint. The micro-niche we created was that we designed the tools used to perform PDR with good ergonomics in mind. I used to chase hail storms all around the world and was at the top of the game when I injured my neck and shoulder while working in Australia. This was equivalent to a professional athlete getting injured but without any high paying contracts. I went from earning an extremely high income to zero overnight. I was lucky enough to have been very smart with the money I had made over the years thanks to my Dad and other great friends coaching me on debt and investing so I had some time to figure things out. I tried several businesses both inside the Dent Repair industry and out of it but nothing really got me as excited as traveling and repairing hail damage and the camaraderie and satisfaction I derived from it. Until EdgyTools, that is! EdgyTools became the perfect fit. I was working with my friends and colleagues again, I was traveling again, I was truly happy again and doing something that really mattered!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Often my friends and colleagues come to AZ to attend my masterminds. My friend Jack’s (Sioux Falls Dent Repair) trip is a great example which comes to mind. He spent 10 days in Chandler and on top of the trainings he came out for, we ate and drank some of the best food and drinks. We enjoyed restaurants in Scottsdale, Tempe, Chandler, and Gilbert. Some of his favorites (and mine too) were The Mission, Spinato’s Pizzeria, Edelweiss Biergarten, and Yo Pauly’s NY Pizza. As a special bonus, Jack and I worked hands on for our friend Big Dent Dave of ProDentAz.com fixing some hail damaged cars at some of his accounts such as Raintree Auto Body and Ric’s Body and Paint. We studied and applied some of Joe Polish’s teaching (many of which can be learned for free at ILoveMarketing.com). I am planning to take Jack and others to Bondurant High Performance Driving School for some wild fun when our in person trainings fire back up.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The two organizations that have helped me the most are Joe Polish of Genius Network and Dan Sullivan of Strategic Coach. They have not only helped my business reach new heights but they have taught me how to do it easier while having more fun and taking more time off. I know this sounds counter-intuitive and actually completely backwards form what we have all learned and experienced but it works! If the old version of me was awake, I was working. I told myself that it was alright since I loved what I was doing (and I truly 100% do love it!) but I didn’t realize that I wasn’t making the best decisions or performing my best. Sometimes taking a break and coming back with a fresh perspective is when the big breakthroughs come! I am not where I want to be yet and that’s perfectly okay. I know that with Dan and Joe, guiding and helping me, I am so much closer than I would have ever been. The rewards have already been more than I could ever properly express my gratitude to them; better businesses, better relationships, better health, better life.
