We had the good fortune of connecting with David Specht and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi David, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My wife and I were performing in other people’s theatres and never in our home town. We wanted to bring something special to Chandler and we thought we knew how to do it.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
ImprovMANIA Comedy produces a comedy show unlike any other comedy club. Our show is incredibly interactive. We don’t just have you shout a suggestion. Every show is entirely based on the lives and experiences of each audience. We call the show “dangerous” for an audience member because anybody can become part of the show at any time. We also launched a fully functioning youth theatre, and we are the only comedy club we know of that has done that. Life lessons: Every challenge is an opportunity. A bump in the road is an opportunity to grow and learn and we have found that you only have to learn each thing once.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
We are enthusiasts about Downtown Chandler. The rich history of Downtown Chandler combined with the quantity of mom and pop establishments really gives the area a unique culture. We recommend that our customers come down early for dinner at a local spot, then stay after our show and visit another place for drinks or dessert. We like to say, “park your car once.”
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Jeff & Julia Peixoto of Peixoto Coffee. Cheryl Tisland of Burst of Butterflies. John and Michelle Wolfe of Sibley’s West.
Nominate someone: ShoutoutArizona is built on recommendations and shoutouts from the community; it’s how we uncover hidden gems, so if you or someone you know deserves recognition please let us know here.
