We had the good fortune of connecting with Dennis Goldsmith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dennis, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Ganbare Shotokan Karate of Prescott helps the community in a myriad of ways: we promote physical and mental health, stimulating the mind and body by teaching a traditional Japanese martial art. We empower members of our community by instilling in them self-confidence and teaching them how to protect themselves and their loved ones. We also foster a sense of community and camaraderie as we push each other to excel in and out of the dojo.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our karate dojo is special in that it has been a culmination of the efforts of many people who have come together to preserve a traditional art form. We started off meeting at a rec center, then a school gymnasium, then shared a facility with another karate dojo in town for a year before finally obtaining our own facility. Our membership has soared in the past year or so, and we have attracted and produced some quality martial artists. Through patience and perseverance, we have grown this school and have enriched the lives of many of our community members.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For me, the best thing about Prescott is the nature it offers. From the pine-covered Bradshaws to the chaparral and high desert, there’s a beautiful variety of scenery to take in. The historic downtown offers intriguing places to eat and drink as well,

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Everyone who has ever trained with me or taught me in the martial arts, which are honestly too numerous to name. Even moreso my family, who has supported me and encouraged me in so many ways over the years.
