We had the good fortune of connecting with Diana Anghelus and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Diana, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
Most of people think that being a makeup artist means doing makeup all day long, playing with colors or trying new beauty products. From outside it seems a fun job which I am not saying it cannot be sometimes. What outsiders do not know, is that once you get into this profession, there is more than just makeup involved. As a business owner, in order to have clients in my chair, I have to work towards getting these clients. This means a lot of marketing which let’s be honest, takes a lot of time, making sure to be active on social media, creating a website and keeping it up to date, getting the business on different platforms in order to be found by potential clients, answering to emails, communicating and creating timelines for different type of jobs etc. And let’s not forget about the financial part. We do not get to keep all the money, we have to pay taxes as well, so keeping track of the income as well as all the expenses is another responsibility of our job.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been a makeup artist for over 10 years, I worked for different cosmetic companies while running my makeup business – Makeup By Diana – at the same time. My main focus is Bridal/Weddings and everything beauty related. In 2019 I left my retail job to focus on my business and at the same time I added another career under my belt – the Real Estate. I believe in long term relationships and becoming a Realtor, as well, it gives me the opportunity to continue helping people that I created a connection with and know my work ethic already. I love being an entrepreneur and being my own boss, having the freedom that I did not have while having a job, as well as managing my business the best way I can. I am 100% committed to offer the best services I can for both my makeup clients as well as my buyers and sellers.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is a hard question :)), because I have too many places that I love around Phoenix and one week would not be enough ;). One of my top recommendation for out of state visitors is definitely check out Rustler’s Rooste Restaurant in Phoenix. It is a cowboy steakhouse, very Arizonian, especially if some would like to try their rattlesnake and cacti. There is not only the food and the country music atmosphere, but also the view of the city or sunsets since it is up on the hill. Another place I enjoy spending some time is The Phoenician Resort. There are so many things this place offers, along with their great customer service. It is so relaxing to just walk the grounds, go to the pool or just have a drink. Some exotic trees are also going to make this view unforgettable, as well as the Camelback mountain behind the main building. And now that I mentioned about Camelback, this is also a great spot for visitors, whoever likes hiking. It is not an easy hike, but all worth it once you get on the top. Piestewa Peak is another great hike that I recommend. To keep it short with my suggestions, I would add these to the list: Goldfield Ghost Town by the Superstition Mountains, Riparian Preserve in Gilbert, outdoor malls like Tempe Marketplace, Desert Ridge ( Phoenix ), Westgate (Glendale),San Tan mall, the Zoo or the Botanical Garden. Olive Mill and Schnepf Farms in Queen Creek also make a great place if anyone would like to try some local goodies.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I love following influential entrepreneurs to get inspired and one of them is Dean Graziosi, whose book I highly recommend – Millionaire Success Habits.
