We had the good fortune of connecting with Dominika Gaines and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dominika, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The integrity and heart with which I and my staff work. I believe its important to lead by example. My staff see me consistently working hard as I juggle numerous personal and professional responsibilities, but I always engage with our clients with passion, compassion, sincerity and curiosity. Even when things have been tough, they know they can count on me to do the right thing; I pride myself on fairness. As a team, we truly invest ourselves in our teaching and stay very current in our own education.
What should our readers know about your business?
I’m most proud of the fact that Kinesphere has been in business for almost 20 years as a boutique wellness studio dedicated to assisting our clients in achieving better health and wellbeing through movement. We rode out the recession of 2008 and have managed to eek by during this current pandemic. Like many small businesses, we’ve navigated changes in the fitness industry by staying true to our values of integrity, a high standard of ethics and professionalism, and adaptability through continual professional education.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are two places I recommend everyone visit in Phoenix: the Musical Instrument Museum and the Desert Botanical Gardens. These two places would be a priority for culture. We might also drive up to Sedona. In the city, I’d likely take them to Otro Cafe, Lola Coffee, Gadzooks, Flower Child. And we’d probably take a hike in Dreamy Draw Park. If they like books, I’d take them to Changing Hands.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without a doubt, Lisa Perry. Lisa has been with me for well over 20 years in various capacities. She began as a student of dance, Pilates and GYROTONIC(R) work. I appreciated her intelligence and loyalty and began engaging her in others roles: assisting me with running my dance company, caring for my young child, and finally as a partner in my business. Lisa has been my rock, my grounding. She has supported so many of my endeavors and dreams but with a firm grasp of reality. She took on management roles that allowed me to focus on more creative work. She has been the Associate Director of Kinesphere from its inception. And she’s always done that with great love and compassion for me. I wouldn’t be where I am without her.
