We had the good fortune of connecting with Eden Benibo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eden, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process for me was all about creating a space I once searched for. A few years back while I was still an undergraduate, I never thought I would own a business. All I wanted as a poet and writer was to find a well paying job in this field and contribute my little quota to the world in the little way I can.

Until I realized there was/is more to become. There was this push in my heart when I realized I wasn’t made for the average with little or no impact.

They say the road to entrepreneurship is usually lonely, but gratefully, from the very start of my journey, I found 30 other creatives who had the same burning passion as I did and together we are “creating a space we once searched for” and what is this space:

A place where Art meets purpose. Where Art is redefined beyond societal descriptions because in the end, we all have an Art.

A place where Dreams can call home and Art serves as a binding tool beyond all racial, religious, ideological, age, and gender differences.

A place where creatives can feel loved, seen and heard and get paid for simply doing what they love.

This and more were the thought processes behind the establishment of Hello ICON Magazine.

What should our readers know about your business?
I would like to describe myself as a creative who is into business. This is a big deal for me because I look forward to a world of more dreamers and more doers. A world where our Art and creativity doesn’t have to be our side hustle but actually the real deal.

What sets Hello ICON Magazine apart is that we ain’t just about building a space to create more job opportunities. We more about a jobs that connect to individuals. Their love. Their passion. Where creatives especially can get paid for doing what they love, and although just one year, six months old, we are grateful for the gradual progress made towards this big dream.

So many creatives are out there doing jobs they have zero passion for, just because their passion can probably not pay the bills. And this is very much understandable. But what this leads to is that void within. The lack of fulfillment. Imagine a world where we’re simply doing what we love, full time. Definitely leads to a happier, and more fulfilled people.

Another thing that sets us apart is Hello ICON Magazine is written for a global audience. With consciously curated contents that refinements and creates a bond beyond all our differences as humans.

It was definitely not an easy one even from when we were about to launch. There were many times my back was against the wall. But one thing that kept me going was passion. The reason the dream was born in the first place. That constantly served as what kept me burning. I’ll like to say passion is the actual fuel for the journey towards the light at the end of the tunnel. With passion or a real cause in focus, one may easily get tired or blown away when the storms come.

For instance we made many applications for partnerships that didn’t get any response. Not even a rejection. Hehehe

It just felt like a little child crying to be heard in a cold big world. Because no doubt this dream is a big one and we needed digital marketing partners and all to power the financial aspect that would bring many of the plans to life. But this part is funny because just when our backs were totally against the wall and seemed like no one was listening, we got our first and most treasured partnership deal with Adam Vital who introduced us to our now lead Digital Marketer, Michelle Monato.

I have been blessed to also be surrounded by people who believe in the dream and a team burning for impact. Finally the God factor is one thing I do not joke with. This is what us helped the business enjoy divine direction which has led to divine speed overtime. So in summary, the 4 things that has kept me going are. The God factor, passion, consistency and the right connections- a great inner circle.

I want the world to know Hello ICON Magazine as a digital space for beautiful connections not just for Blacks, not just for Whites but for all humans who have creativity running through their blood. And I guess that’s all of us in the end.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Although I am more of an indoor person, regardless I feel places don’t really make people, it is people that make places, you can be in a most ‘fun loving’ place and still have no fun and you can just be under a tree and have the best time of your life. So while I treasure my peace and solitude I still most cherish priceless moments with LOVED ONES especially going to the cinema, beach or just having pizza and sharing laughter together. It’s the little things that matter, always.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

A big shoutout to my mother, Ngozi Benibo for being the very first person I shared the Hello ICON Magazine dream with. She was there from the very start even when our backs were against the wall till we began to thrive.
Shoutout to Oluwaseun Adeyanju, my immediate boss just before the launch of  the magazine. Quitting my job to begin an entirely new journey as an entrepreneur naturally came with so much fears and uncertainties, but it’s been a rare blessing, to have a boss who supports my personal dreams, and who I can still run to for mentorship on days when I am stuck. Also here’s me screaming all my love and shoutout to our founding partners Adam Vital and Michelle Monato who believed in our dream at the very beginning, and then the ICONIC team: 30 whole founding team members of the Hello ICON Magazine. I love to describe them as some of the most beautiful and dedicated hearts the world will ever know. Thank you all for how you carry this dream with both hands and how this journey has been a continuous unfollow how dreams come true.
Finally, shoutout to all my friends, mentors and loved ones who were always there when I needed a shoulder. To everyone who keeps cheering this dream we are building. Sometimes this is all the energy we need to keep us going
Massive love now and always.
