We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Frost Funes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elizabeth, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Ever since I was a first time mom, 22 years ago, I’ve been creating and designing my own kids birthday parties. With a small budget, I would homemake stamped invites, table clothes and piñatas. I created themed parties that looked fabulous and had other moms asking me where i got my creativity from. For my middle child’s 12th birthday ( and in the middle of the pandemic where human connection was suffering) I decided to throw her a personal and intimate slumber party with 4 of her closest girlfriends. I saw teepee party companies in another state and I thought it looked like so much fun. I thought of a cute theme and the creative juices started flowing. I was a working nurse at the time, so I had no intentions on creating my own business. By the time all of the moms dropped off their kids they had convinced me this was the most creative and adorable party they had ever seen. I have to admit, for me, creating is my passion and becomes quite therapeutic. With 6 kids, I’ve had to get pretty creative with a small budget many times. I truly thrive off of two things. Making people happy through acts of service, and creating. I have lost many hours of sleep thinking about what I can create next. We just added a DYI spa pedi party. Designing the details was thrilling for me. I may not sleep much owning my own business, but I truly believe if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Glampin Campin Teepee Parties started off with one Campin theme for my daughter Brynlee’s 12th birthday. My husband had to build all of the A framed teepees and we went through many growing pains. We redesigned the teepee fabrics many times before we finally got it right. We got here by a strong will to succeed and a drive to show my kids that if you work really hard you can accomplish anything! I wanted this really bad, and I think my children can see how hard I worked to get it. We are different from other companies for many reasons but my favorite is or attention to detail. Every decor item, every blanket and every teepee is designed as if I was creating it for my own children. If I’m not proud of it, I won’t put it out there. We are definitely living the American dream. My husband immigrated from El Salvador as a child and watched his mother work very hard to provide for her young children. He knew first hand the importance of a strong family support system and how a woman could accomplish anything she had a passion for. He saw that in me. I’m very proud of the hard work we have all put into this adventure. From building the materials, to building the brand, to the sacrifices we have all had to make to get the it started. I’m personally the most proud of our serenity teepee and DIY pedi spa parties. The serenity theme was incredibly inspired by my 2 year old daughter’s room. The lushes pinks, luxurious golds and breath taking textures that make this theme incredibly aesthetic. It’s just stunning. I get a little taken aback every time we set it up. The DYI pedi party matches the serenity theme. It makes me giddy with pride to see it set up. It wasn’t easy to get to the place where we are today. It took a massive sacrifice when I quit my nursing job and we invested so much to hit the ground running. We learned that if we refused to give up, and keep going back to the drawing board we could create something magical. Certainly we have a lot of growing to still be had, but hard work has really paid off so far. We are getting our business noticed and we are starting to really make a name for ourselves. I want the thinkers of the world to know if they work really hard, never give up and be the example our children so desperately need, they can live the American dream too. Our brand certainly stands for that. We sacrificed, prayed on it many times and refused to fail.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend and her family came into town for a week I would have to take them to my favorite new restaurant called ComicX. We just discovered it and my family loves this place! It’s every kids dream! The environment and the food are incredible. Of course I would want to treat ourselves to the day spa at the Desert Ridge Marriott for the best massages and facials in town. For a weekend blast, we could play in the Marriotts incredible lazy river and head to Cave Creak for some bull riding competitions and fun for the whole family. And no trip would be complete without a day trip to Sedona! Especially in the fall. We could hike, explore or get our palms read in the most beautiful place in Arizona!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Of course I couldn’t have taken the leap from a full time job to an entrepreneur without the encouragement of my family. My husband prayed over me and my passion for this business and encouraged me to get started straight away. He took over the finances and gave me the confidence that we could do this. My parents have been my biggest fans. They share every post I put on Facebook and have even started helping me behind the scenes. And then there is my 12 year old “business partner” Brynlee. She helps me with tik tok and reals and has taught me so much about the importance of staying seen in the online space. She and my husband are my go to people to ask for opinions and even wear my logo tshirts! I literally couldn’t do this without their love and constant help.
