Meet Elizabeth Tellez | Artist, Product Customizer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Tellez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elizabeth, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Before I started my business I was doing art and painting as a hobby so my thought process behind starting my business was to first ask my self some questions. First, will I be putting in my best effort into producing these products? Do I enjoy doing this? Is it profitable? and lastly, Is this something I see myself doing 3, 5, 10 years from now? Answering these questions helped me visualize what I wanted out of my business and helped me decide if staring it up was the right choice for me. I answered yes to all the questions and then I went for it, I invested more of my time and energy into starting my business and have slowly been building it up.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What I love about the art and products that I do is that they are unique and completely customizable to the client, because of this each design is it’s own and won’t be duplicated. It’s still an ongoing adventure of learning and developing different skills but getting to where I am now took time and effort. Some of the things I have learned along the way is that you cannot rush your work or you will lose quality, and don’t be afraid to try new things! There is rarely anything that cannot be fixed. Something I’d like everyone to know about me is that I love what I do and when a person orders from me the work that I do comes from the heart,
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love exploring downtown Phoenix, there’s a lot of artwork and murals to see around town so I’d recommend doing that. I’d also recommend stopping by The Pemberton where they have a lot of food trucks to try, their food and drinks are amazing! Lastly, I’d say Cobra Arcade Bar is a must to try out. Their vintage video games and fun drinks are always a good time.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There isn’t just one person or book that I’ve gotten guidance from, but I will say I find a lot of influence from artists such as Frida Kahlo, Van Gogh, Botticelli, and Michelangelo. The customization community has a lot of great artists that I look up to who I have taken inspiration from or learned tips and tricks from their posts, although I have not personally spoken to most of them they inspire a lot of people.
