We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Rieve Lindsey Schoenemann and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emily Rieve, can you talk to us about the impact the Covid-19 Crisis has had on your business.
Since Covid 19, we’ve had to completely change our business model and adapt. We switched completely to retail, cancelled our events, and reduced employee hours. Being able to problem solve is key! We created to-go deals including our Pesto Pizza + Bottle of Wine for $25, Mimosa Kits for $22, and Growler refills for $20. We also created our Bottles for the Brave program to give our community a platform to give back to healthcare workers and first responders. We made it easy for customers to get bottles to-go by having email/phone ordering and curbside pick-up.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are two former Junior High teachers who followed their dream of opening a wine bar. We met while teaching 7th grade math & science in Gilbert, Arizona, quickly became best friends and found that we work best when they collaborate together. We decided to open GenuWine after Emily encountered similar technology on a trip to France. Our passion for supporting local wine led us to connect with Arizona winemakers. What sets us apart from other wine bars are our self-serve machines which allows customers to choose a 1oz, 3oz, or 5oz pour of any of our wines. We also feature many local Arizona wines and love supporting local!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would definitely spend a lot of time at GenuWine! Here are some of our other favorite things to do: Spring Training Game Go for a Hike Palomar Roof Top pool/bar Drive up to Cottonwood Bloody Marys at Carlys Bistro San Tan Brewery Ride Scooters
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We would love to do a shoutout to our husbands who have been supportive of our journey since day 1! They’ve believed in us, helped us, and encouraged us to pursue our dreams.
