We had the good fortune of connecting with Emmalyn P and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emmalyn, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I always thought I have creative abilities but just never had the chance to pursue it because I was busy with my career and other things.
I was a pediatric nurse long before I started looking into content creation. As cliche’ as it may sound and as much as I loved being a nurse, I actually started my blog as a hobby and outlet from my demanding career.
Since then, it has enabled me to express my creativity through photography and fashion.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love being a content creator. It is fun and my love for travel and style ties into my content creation. But it’s not easy! There are many challenges in producing quality content and it requires an exhaustive amount of work and time. I realized my “hobby” can and will completely take over my life if I don”t acknowledge these factors and prioritize what’s important to me.
For me, the balance lies in prioritizing family time, being in the moment, and knowing when and when not to push for content when my creative mind is not working.
My blog mylifeandmystyle.com is a journal of my travel adventures and fashion style — which is a mix of classic, feminine, and high-low pieces. I hope to inspire others to express their own styles and live a life full of adventures.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Southern California so there are lots of fun things to do and see! The one thing to keep in mind is the notorious L.A. traffic which will limit the number of things we can cover in a day.
My top picks for a week’s itinerary would include:
Film buff day: Hollywood Walk of Fame, Chinese Theater, and then off to Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive for a chance to spot a celebrity. Dinner at Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura.
Beach Day: Santa Monica Beach and Pier, Venice Beach, Lunch at Butcher’s Daughter – it’s a vegetarian restaurant with lots of delicious entrees, and then off to Malibu Beach. Dinner at Nobu Malibu – for stunning ocean views and delicious sushi.
Concert or game day: Watch a Laker game at Staples Center, Concert at the Hollywood bowl or Disney Music Concert Hall.
Theme Park Day: Universal Studios or Disneyland and California Adventure.
A Day in Orange County: Laguna Beach then brunch at the trendy Urth Caffe located in Laguna Beach’s renovated historic building. Drive to San Diego to see Balboa Park – a historic urban cultural park and to La Jolla Beach to watch the sunset.
Museum Day: The Broad, Huntington Library, or Getty Center.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wonderful husband, Joe, deserves a lot of credit for all the love, help, and support he has given me since the start of my content creation journey. Although he won’t admit it, he is a great photographer and has taken most of my blog photos.
