Meet Erin Mooney | Floral Designer & Small Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Erin Mooney and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Erin, how do you think about risk?
I was working in the floral industry for other companies for years before I finally made the jump to start my own, when I knew that’s what I wanted to do the entire time. I think there’s never really a perfect time to make a big decision and you just have to learn how to trust the unknown and embrace the bit of chaos that ensues in the process. I still find myself from time to time realizing that it’s time to remove myself from comfort zones to continue forward and the keep growing. It can be absolutely terrifying, but there’s also a lot of excitement in that.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I create temporary art pieces utilizing fresh cut and dried flowers, foliage, and other natural elements. Bold texture is a consistent element in the majority of my designs. Offering daily deliveries, pop-up’s, subscriptions, wedding floral, workshops, and pretty soon a retail space where my designs can be shopped in person.
I’m where I am today because I stuck with it, I left companies sometimes after years of being discouraged by pay, work conditions/environment and also for being uninspired. I had to keep reminding myself how much I really enjoyed floral design and that I did want to start my own company finally it was time just to start it. I left the industry completely got a bartending job and started my first LLC. The biggest driving force for me is how passionate I really am about flower design and floristry I love to keep educating myself too on new techniques and trends. I would say if its something you really want you just gotta stick with it and sometimes that means making major adjustments and changes along the way.
Buckaroo Flower Co is all about the importance of staying playful and kind especially with how wild the world can be, nature holds so many treasures for us to enjoy and share.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Phoenix is almost impossible to keep up with, all the new and cool spots constantly opening up! The day would have to start with a trip to Song Bird Coffee and Tea Lounge I’m a big tea fan and am obsessed with their selection. Following that would be breakfast likely at Vovomena, or Ollie Vaughns. Then I’d say hit the botanical gardens (if weather permits) shouldn’t be a surprise that this is one of my favorite spots in the valley. A trip to the antique malls in Mesa and to Luxie Vintage are absolute musts. There’s no shortage of fantastic food in Phoenix, but the happy hour deals at Pubblico are insane. Would need to hit some of my standby’s for drinks Gracie’s Tax Bar, Linger Longer, and The Kettle Black, and plenty of fun and treats to be found at The Pemberton but would pepper in some of the newer spots I’ve been wanting to try out too. I’d want to round the trip off with sometime up North hitting some trails in Sedona and enjoying some of the sites in between.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have such an incredible community cheering me on, from former co-workers, family, friends, vendors it’s really overwhelming how much gratitude I have for all these folks who continue to support and believe in me.
