We had the good fortune of connecting with Fisayo Gracie Abby and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Fisayo, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
This has to be closing down my budding fashion business in Nigeria, quitting my full time job as a consultant, relocating to the United States to pursue a Masters of Business Administration and then starting off a new life afterwards. I consider this a difficult decision because it had several uncertainties connected to it and it seemed as though I was leaving the known for the unknown.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

I create video content on YouTube & Instagram, sharing about my creative interests, experiences and journey as an international student navigating life abroad. I felt the need to visibly document my stories as I had received a number of questions from many friends back home about how I got to this position and what tips they could also engage. Answering these questions, I found myself repeating answers to everyone asking me the same questions and then decided to curate all my experiences in a way that’s easily accessible to anyone that needs it.

I’m proud of the impact that my lifestyle has made in the lives of thousands of people around the world. I get several DMs/emails from people telling me that my content inspired them to go after their grad school dreams and put in the work to attain it. I’m also proud that fashion and lifestyle brands started noticing my work in the short time I began my influencer career despite being in the underrepresented minority category.

Lessons – Tenacity, Hard work & Strategy are key factors to growing as a creator.

I want the world to know that it’s okay to dream again, to start again, to build again regardless of whatever has happened in the past.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to recognize my great institution; Arizona State University. The school gave me my first community, friends, classmates and advisors when I newly moved abroad. They provided a ton of support through the transitioning phase and it really helped me settle into my new life. I would also like to give a shoutout to my family and friends back home for believing in, actively supporting and celebrating all my wins.
