Meet Gabby DelCorso | Owner of Deserted Thrifts

We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabby DelCorso and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gabby, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I started Deserted Thrifts because I wanted to help people make conscious consumer decisions when it comes to fashion/home products! I find it so hard to avoid the fast fashion industry and stay on trend all the time. My business is meant to encourage more people to shop secondhand because of its great effect on the earth(while also finding thoughtful pieces that are timeless!). A lot of thrift stores are currently overflowing with inventory and are sending things straight to landfills and I wanted to help alleviate this. Ultimately, it is not about the money to me, it is about sharing a community with people who share the same passion for saving the earth! I know my impact is small, but the thrifting community is so large and is creating such a positive effect in the world of consumerism!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am currently working at an Interior Design Firm in Scottsdale while running my small business. I’m a student at ASU and still learning every single day, but I am proud to be working in the field that helps fuel my passion for anything creative. To me, the most challenging part of jumping into the field, was being able to commit to change. I left my job of 5 years to work at my current job and it was something I was so nervous for, but it has opened some amazing opportunities for me! All it took was a bit of change and it was definitely worth it!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a Downtown Gilbert girl at heart. Most of my favorite places can be found in Historical Gilbert! I would definitely stop at the Farmers Market on Saturday getting local goodies. Definitely grab cold brew from Mama’s Cold Brew and a burrito from Morning Kick! Or stop at Snooze for a filling breakfast! Not to mention the night life in Downtown Gilbert is constantly evolving, Whiskey Row is a must. There are so many gems in Gilbert, its the perfect spot to meet with friends or go on a date!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
If anyone deserves the credit, it’s the thrifting community as a whole. I started my business with a simple idea, but ultimately this community inspired so much more for me and I am so grateful for the kind people I have met! There are so many local Arizona businesses sharing the same goal as me- wanting to find ways to repurpose pieces (whether that be fashion, decor, etc) that might otherwise end up in landfill. Each person I have found through the thrifting community, whether that be through Instagram, Depop, Mercari, Facebook Marketplace, or elsewhere, brings a completely different vibe and talent to the table. It is so encouraging to see such successful thrift businesses all around the US, but especially the ones local to AZ.
