We had the good fortune of connecting with Danielle Costa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Danielle, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
If what you are doing makes you happy then you keep going. End of story. It isn’t always easy and there may be times when you need to take a break, but continuing to work towards something that brings you joy and purpose will always be worth it. If it isn’t fulfilling you, then it may be time to move on to something else. Giving up and changing your mind isn’t failure. Sometimes you need to try a few times to get it right, but when you do, the decision to keep going will be an easy one.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I wear many hats professionally. I work full-time in marketing for an agency, specializing in strategy and content. I also have been working in radio for many years as an on-air personality. Additionally, I have started my own podcast called ‘Back To Basic’ where I interview creators, business owners, entrepreneurs, bloggers, and more. I got to this point professionally through a lot of trial and error. It has not been easy, and at times continues to not be easy. Overcoming the challenges, in retrospect, was less challenging than I thought. I just never gave up the thought that it would happen and kept saying yes to opportunities. In a lot of ways, I still do that. I still jump at any opportunity I can to learn, grow, and connect. Creating my own podcast gave me the chance to create a brand/product that I was passionate about and to tell/share stories from people following their own passions. I want the world to know that my brand is all about finding the basic things in life that we all relate to. Everyone has a story to tell and you deserve to share it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A spot we really enjoyed was the restaurant, Breakfast Bitch. It has great food, great energy, and great branding (which as a marketing professional I truly appreciate). Definitely a fun must-try spot when going with friends and a way to really get the party started!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be where I am without the support of my mother. She always encourages me to keep going and without her I would have never gotten to the place in my life and career that I am at. After a while with no success and no promising job prospects, I was about to take a job in an industry I wasn’t passionate about and my mother encouraged me to not give up and to keep working towards my goals. She said, “do what you love and money will come”, and it is something I have carried with me throughout the many ups and downs of my career. And of course, she was right. Not long after this, I got my first radio job and it is also there that I met my boyfriend who, along with my mom, is my biggest cheerleader and continually encourages me to keep going.
