We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabriel Aprea & Stephen Humes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gabriel & Stephen, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
There are no guarantees in this world. For content creators such as ourselves, we are always striving to reach our audiences in the most interesting ways. Having a podcast that features a very specific topic sometimes makes it hard to connect with more people. It’s the little things that help to continuously push us along and keep creating. If you want to achieve something bad enough, you will not let anything stop you. We will not let anything stop us!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We are both actors! Having studied the craft and been a part of it for so many years, we were always looking for new ways to create our art and share it. What started as a fun idea on the side, turned into a creative outlet for us once the pandemic hit, and our industry, and worlds, both shut down. This podcast has kept us going, has kept us thinking and feeling creatively, has kept us communicating not only with each other, but with others involved in the beer world who we would have never reached before. Not to mention the other artists we have also been able to reach as we know so many other creatives who are sharing their work in all sorts of different ways.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you are hanging out with us, chances are we’re going to a brewery! (Or a cool spot that serves beer!) With both of us living in NYC and LA, we know of a few fun city spots that anyone can enjoy!
For Stephen in LA, his favorite spot is Firestone Walker. A California STAPLE with amazing beers and even better food. Other places in his area include Sunset Beer Co., the LA coliseum or any other sports venue!
For Gabe in NYC favorite spots include City Swiggers Beer shop, Yankee Stadium as well as Citi Field, and pretty much any other beer bar in the city. (There are so many!)
However as actors, we both love to be able to see movies or live theatre when they are still happening. One of our favorite theaters is Saint Ann’s Warehouse in Brooklyn.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We wouldn’t be able to drink the beer if it weren’t for the breweries that MAKE the beer! Each brewery deserves their own special shoutout as they continue to create styles, as well as their own versions of beer styles. There are many head-brewers/owners/employees we have been able to connect with while visiting these breweries in person. Another special shoutout to these people who have engaged with us, given us private tours, sent us beers to sample or simply said hello!
We also want to give a special shoutout to other beer podcasts out there, as well as podcast pioneers really making a name for themselves. We continue to grow inspiration from other podcasters by either listening, or even watching how they create on the platform. It gives us a chance to try new things and see how others are also making a success with podcasting.
