We had the good fortune of connecting with Genesis Adams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Genesis, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
Not only do I want to be a Legend in the industry of doing hair , I also want to have a Legacy in changing peoples lives with my voice. I don’t like just doing hair for money or even creating more businesses for money, I appreciate just being able to meet new people , hear our testimonies and feeling like we’re creating a safe haven for each other without even having to know each other for that long. I want my legacy to be the woman who slays but prays for you and shares positive energy while also receiving a service from me. I believe every business owner has had there falls , and speaking of legacy everyone will be known for something different. I will be known for the woman who had ambition and made people feel like they are welcomed no matter who they are and what they been through. Even though right now my main business that I am perfecting is in the hair industry, and there are a lot of other great women who do great job. My goal is protect and grow your hair while having a great time in the process. I want them to remember the laughs we had and the energy and atmosphere in the room from me as a stylist and as a advocate for more positive God’s love being shared in the world.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started braiding when I was 14 years old. I had a few friends that let me practice on them that went to our high school and a lot of others saw it and wanted to book with me. In the beginning it wasn’t easy because everyone has different hair textures so finding the right products , doing my research on what helps the hair grow and getting my grip game under control was one of the starter challenges I faced. Over the years I became faster at braiding which allows me to complete most styles in less than 4 hours depending on head size , sometimes large knotless braids can take me 2 hours , Box braids can be 3 hours sometimes it fluctuates but I was the Quick braider as well. Also set me apart from others is actually loving to do hair , it doesn’t only bring me money but I just love when I finish and the client shows there pearly whites and love what I achieved for them. I used a lot of social media platforms and word of mouth to gain more clientele for my business and I’m looking to expand more into those fields because with technology today we can make a video blow up over night. I learned along the way that every style and client can be different , I learned great hospitality skills since I’ve serviced clients of all ages , and learned that a conversation goes along way into teaching new things as the world around us change everyday. I want the world to know about my brand is to protect your crown , as well as protect your spirit , the way you look does not define you , we are all beautiful and unique in our own way , share your love as well as share your beauty and that’s how it’s gotten me where I am today by not only just being a stylist but by being a great friend.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well since I’m from Georgia , I love Arizona’s Scenery. For food I would take her to Mrs. Whites Golden Rule for a little soul food , it definitely is pretty close in some good southern cooking. I would take her to ButtersCafe for some good breakfast out in Scottsdale. Get some Valley Wings in Scottsdale , D-Macs is a pretty good wings spot in Mesa , Sugar Jam , and Monroe’s Hot Chicken is Good too. I pretty much love chicken lol so a lot of chicken spots became my favorite! To have some drinks we will enjoy bar hopping downtown Phoenix or off Mill Ave in Tempe! Also hang out on Mill Ave , visit Westgate Entertainment District out in Glendale , and of course Bar Hop down in Scottsdale! Definitely would visit Loyalty Lounge for a cool vibe and Pretty Please has to great atmospheres for us southern girls! Since Arizona has amazing scenery if it’s not to hot it’s great to be outside , we would do some hiking and visit Arizona Hot Springs , Check out the Grand Canyon , and visit Sedona’s Natural Water Park! Definitely riding the scooters or just walking around you’ll meet a lot of great people out in Arizona with a lot of business and cool friend opportunities if you put yourself in environments that you like to be in.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would actually like to thank each and every client that I’ve had because they trusted me with there crowns as well as shared some kind of wisdom with me that I could take with me in life. I will also like to shoutout my Mom because she was the first one who allowed me to expand in my business when I first started doing hair out her home even when she didn’t always like it. My aunts and grandparents pushed me to expand further into turning it into a business with gathering my LLC and traveling to new cities around the country to show off my skills. I can also thank a few establishments back in Columbus, GA who allowed me to do services in there shops. I will also like to thank my best friend who always believed in my skill and we push each other to be great hairstylist cause she is one as well. Last but the greatest praise I am shouting out is God for giving me the gift of this craft and the Love I can share to these beautiful women and people around as being a stylist. He pours his word into me and sends the right clients as well as I have strong faith that each style I do I get better and learn something new every time. I will love to service more people and recognize that each day is a day to get better shouting out youtube and these new platforms too!
