We had the good fortune of connecting with Gennaro García and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gennaro, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Loving what I do , staying creative and understanding that being an artist you have to find the perfection in the imperfection of your own art, realizing that to be able to live from doing what I love I have to be disciplined and that the business of being an artist Is 50% creating art and the other 50% is selling the art, public relationships, being out there, being present in every market available.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I create art every day in so many different ways, I’m not an artist that only make one style, I like to learn everyday something, I think that’s who i’am, an artist that learn everyday something new, I love to work in so many different styles, isn’t that the idea of being an artist? To create ? To learn? That’s my art. I can’t tell was easy or hard, because every struggle I had now I’m proud of it, I enjoy it , from sleeping on a alley homeless to be without work so many times but when hard times hit you is when you have to believe more in yourself, nobody will help you more that you help yourself.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This right in my alley, I work with so many chefs in town and all USA and MEXICO , everything is around food with my art, so let’s start: To start I’ll take them to LA BOHEMIA CAFE. To enjoy a oatmeal cappuccino with a concha, and check all the craft/ art that Emily and crafty chica create at mucho más art studio, Lunch at TACO CHELO of course!!! ( I have to represent) from there to a museum or my ARTELIER to check some art after that some good drinks at one of the many amazing breweries we have in downtown from there to PIZERIA BIANCO or the new TRATTO . Best way to end a great day in my Phoenix.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Mexico, everything I create have the colors, the aroma of my Mexico, this is why travel, to lean , to feel, to represent my people and to lean from them to be able to teach my daughter and to share this to the world.
