Meet Ginny Smith | Arizona Based Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ginny Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ginny, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to be able to create my own schedule and do something that not only contributes to the family and build a business that I love in the process. Work-life balance is very important to myself and my husband, with two boys it’s a must. Growing up my dad owned two businesses so I saw first hand how much hard work and dedication goes into the journey but I also got to see how rewarding it can be! I also knew that if I started a business doing something I enjoyed then it would be successful-when your heart is invested everything else falls into place!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve combined my passion for photography and my obsession for Arizona by using the beautiful scenery as my studio. I love Arizona to the core – the mountains, cactus, and desert wildlife! Golden Hour doesn’t get anymore gorgeous! My Dad introduced me to hiking at a very young age so I grew up hiking the Superstition Mountains, and now that I’ve been on so many trails in Arizona I can recommend a fun spot to take couples for a photo shoot! I’m always down for an adventure so of course I’m willing to travel the extra mile to get those perfect shots!
My favorite is telling my clients about my love story. My best friend Cynthia got ordained and married my husband and I in Sedona. Afterward my friend Shelby with Shelby Lucas Photography did our photo shoot at Cathedral Rock Trailhead. So I’ve personally hiked in a wedding dress to get those special photos!
I also specialize in families, children (6 months and older), maternity, and graduation!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The morning would be filled with staying active and checking out the beautiful views of Arizona, the afternoon would include unique coffee spots with a great atmosphere and nightlife would have great food and drinks!
The first day I would take them hiking to the Superstition Mountains(Siphon Draw Trailhead) and then I would take them to a local coffee shop to relax-Steadfast Coffee in Mesa offers unique lattes such as the Rosemary Vanilla Latte and has amazing breakfast tacos. After coffee, we would have to go to their little farmers market and pick up fresh carrots, bagels, and kale to take home. They also have local handmade candles and lotions! Dinner would be at High Tide Seafood Bar & Grill.
Another day I would take them to go paddle boarding at Canyon Lake and then check out Four Silos Brewery|Craft Coffee & Beer House(a Dirty Chai Latte is a must). Dinner this night would be at DC Steak House in Downtown Chandler, they have amazing surf n’ turf! After we would hit up The Hidden House and The Ostrich.
The last day would be all about nightlife in Downtown Gilbert and we would visit Speakeasy bars that have the most creative and amazing bartenders! The first stop-White Rabbit for a Charcuterie Board, Carrot Cake, and “Chasing Rabbits” cocktail. After I would go next door to The Parlour Room- here I would ask for “David and Dylan” to create me something to drink. The vibe and music are perfect, definitely a spot you can’t miss if you’re visiting Arizona!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ve been really blessed with a great group of women around me that are successful and driven, they have been encouraging and supportive through my journey to say the least but the person that really deserves credit is my husband Brandon! The moment I mentioned I was interested in started a photography business he couldn’t have been more excited for me. Aside from pushing me every step of the way, he has been my biggest fan! When I have moments that are discouraging he’s always there to pick me back up and motivate me!
