We had the good fortune of connecting with Matthew Miller and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matthew, how does your business help the community?
In a world where climate change is disrupting the atmosphere, our food requires more and more pesticides and herbicides to avoid contamination, our soil is losing its nutrients and beginning to degrade, and the need for healthy and sustainably produced food is an ever growing necessity, we must enact change in the way view farming and how we grow and transport produce. Apricus Greens was founded on the idea to grow and sell the healthiest and most sustainably produced product possible. We use controlled environment agriculture to grow all of our products. This means that we grow inside using racks with high grade LED spectrum lights, eliminating the need to pesticides and herbicides, allowing us to collect humidity released from the plants lowering our water consumption, and allows us to grow the same amount of crops in 300sqft as a 3 acre farm. Beyond that our food is grown locally right in the heart of phoenix at a warehouse in old town scottsdale, lowering our carbon emissions from having to deliver our product farther than our local area.

Looking into the health benefits our products contain, microgreens are regarded as one of the most substantial superfoods to date. Microgreens, unlike their fully grown counterparts, can contain up to 40x the nutrients per weight. Because the nutrients contained in these microgreens come straight from the seed instead of the plant using up this energy and producing it nutrients through photosynthesizing, we ensure our product contains the highest possible amount of nutrients possible.

Helping our community to become healthier and more sustainable is the reason we entered this business and the reason we will fight hard to see it succeed.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Apricus Greens specializes in growing microgreens using CEA or Controlled Environment Agriculture. This means that all of our produce is grown inside using artificial lights and innovative techniques. We believe in fulfilling peoples need for healthy and nutritious produce that is becoming harder and more expensive to come by. We pride ourselves on the amazing health benefits our products have and how on a large scale our business model could reduce carbon emissions and help revolutionize the way we produce food. To get where we are now was not easy. While we are nowhere near where we want to be in the future, getting to where we are now took hours of studying and learning and days of hard manual and mental work growing and building our brand. Overcoming many of the barriers in our way has set us apart from our peers and shown us what it takes to be a successful company. We want the world to know that anyone has the potential to create and build something special and that following your dreams and passion will always lead you down the right path.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of our favorite spots in Arizona is the Salt River. Whether it would be tubing/kayaking down the river or fishing on the banks, it is always beautiful and enlightening. After, their are many great restaurants like Across the Pond for some amazing sushi or Base Pizzeria for a tasty slice. Along with this I would be able to fill a whole week full of outdoor adventures and local healthy restaurants. From Lake Powell to Havasu Falls and everything in between there is an endless amount of beautiful spots to visit in Phoenix and around. If we are looking to have some fun and let our wild side out. Old Town Scottsdale is always entertaining as well as Mill in Tempe. Phoenix is a fantastic place to live with the wide variety of activities, people to meet, and things to see.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank my fellow founders Zack Bridge, Ricky Goodell, and Alex Conie. As well as David Delorenzo who has helped mentored and connected us with many people around the valley.
