Meet Goonzy The Clown | AZ Family Entertainer and Party Clown

We had the good fortune of connecting with Goonzy The Clown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Goonzy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always been drawn to what some folks may consider strange and unusual, but circuses, vaudeville acts and that old time entertainment has always been a great interest of mine. And I have always had a tremendous love for children, being a Father myself. I had a great interest in combining those things. I saw there weren’t many people in the children’s entertainment business in Arizona. It seemed to be a fairly open market. I’ve been performing for almost 30 years now. Middle school and high school plays, community theater, independent films, I’ve played music in bars and clubs for years at a time. I knew I could combine all of the things that I love; music, comedy, magic and more to create an ultimate show that children and parents would enjoy and could experience together. I wanted to create ultimate Family friendly entertainment and present that to my community. With it being such an untapped path, I had a good belief that I could be successful. And, thankfully I was right! As a Father, I am always looking for new, fun and creative entertainment to experience with my family. It can be hard to locate. When I had trouble finding it, creating it seemed the logical thing to do. I spent several years developing, writing and practicing my act. I had a great mentor in children’s entertainment as well. I didn’t present my brand or product until it was top notch. I wanted no part of my show to be weak or subpar. And, that was the right way to go. I was able to hit the ground running with nothing but compliments, 5 star reviews and wonderful word of mouth recommendations. I feel very blessed to do what I love and bring such great experiences and memories to Families in my community.

You can simply find me or my business for booking by searching “Goonzy The Clown.” I have a strong social media presence. I am active in character on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok and YouTube. Plus, my website at goonzytheclown.com I interact with my supporters. And I consider my supporters friends. I treat everyone as such. If you are going to entertain Families, I think it is important to put yourself out there and be an active member of the community. I make lots of fun, silly and entertaining videos for my supporters to enjoy on my media for free. It’s fun for all of us that we can maintain contact and a following beyond me just performing at someone’s Birthday party. I enjoy being an active member of my community and being accessible to supporters, customers and fans!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Phoenix is rich in culture and ideas. We have so much beautiful desert scenery. I always encourage people to spend time outside and to explore our mountains and trails. But the Phoenix Children’s Museum is always a must stop for my family as well.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I had a wonderful mentor by the name of Valerie Polega. She owned a Children’s Entertainment business in Arizona for many years called P.A.F.F.Y. and Co. The acronym stands for “paint a face for you.” And that is where I began in children’s entertainment. I started as a Face Painter. Valerie taught me a lot about entertaining children and gave me hands on experience. I honed one skill at a time. First was Face Painting, then Balloon Twisting, and Magic is an ongoing learned trade. You never stop learning how to be a better magician. The same can be said for clowning and comedy. But it definitely helped that I seemed to have some natural ability in both.
