We had the good fortune of connecting with Greg Hague and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Greg, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Our success is a result of developing a unique home selling process that takes just 8 days and has consistently resulted in higher prices for sellers across the country. A Q1 2023 independent study of 9000+ home sellers who used the 72SOLD program showed they averaged 9.1% higher prices than other homes sold in their local MLS.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
72SOLD is a program for selling a home in eight days or less (instead of the traditional weeks or months) for thousands more than selling the traditional way. Six independent studies over three years encompassing more than 200,000 home sales found that sellers who used the 72SOLD program achieved a median sale price averaging 8% to 12% higher prices than other homes sold in their local MLS.

72SOLD sellers don’t endure the inconvenience of daily showings and have greater control over their closing and move dates. Following our success in the Arizona market, we have now expanded into 81 other cities across the country.

Of course, I’ve faced challenges along the way—many from competitors who don’t want our industry to change. Real estate agents tend to criticize when we break tradition, looking to disrupt and improve an industry that desperately needs it.

Back in 1986 when I launched my first disruptive real estate business with a non-traditional approach to selling homes, I was shocked at the often mean, personal criticism I received from traditional real estate agents who I previously looked at as business friends. They didn’t want to change and resented it when consumers chose to go my way. They also hated that I marketed so aggressively. I learned to walk the high road, not criticize back (sometimes hard not to do), be nice, accommodating, and offer to share anything I knew that might help those who criticized me. I learned that the #1 thing is to stay focused on doing better for consumers, and try to disregard critical competitors.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We all know Metro Phoenix has a wealth of fun opportunities. Google to find it online better than I would describe it here. But what you might miss if you don’t know to check it out, is the northern paradise of Sedona.

My wife Teresa and I love to golf in Sedona at 7 Canyons. From spectacular golf to breathtaking views, one can find a myriad of unique shopping, hiking, biking, pink jeep excursions, helicopter rides and even rejuvenating spa experiences to replenish the body and mind throughout this beautiful town. If you’re making the trip from Phoenix, don’t forget to swing by Rock Springs Cafe for a piece of their famous pie…known as the best in Arizona! Once in Sedona, you won’t want to miss the artisan shopping experience of Tlaquepaque, dinner viewing the red rocks at Maricopa, and the best pizza in the world at Pisa Lisa.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My father grew up poor, raised by a single mother who worked multiple jobs. After serving as a fighter pilot instructor in WWII he returned to Cincinnati (where I was born), secured a job selling real estate, and through incredibly hard work had considerable success selling homes, and ultimately founding his own successful real estate brokerage. My dad’s success enabled him to give me a private school education, including law school, and opened doors to opportunities I would not have had without him. My Shoutout is dedicated first to my dad.

The second big influence in my life was Tex Earnhardt, a local auto dealer who built a billion-dollar multi-dealership car business by being the “Nicest Guy In The World.”

Below is an excerpt from a story I wrote about Tex and me, and how he influenced my life, making me understand that “Deals don’t make you money, people do.” Treat people right and they will do the same to you:

Tex Earnhardt celebrated his 88th birthday. Nothing formal. We met at his ranch to celebrate. It was Tex’s day, but he still kept trying to fetch soft drinks, carry our food to the table, and help in any way he could. That’s what nice guys do. It’s never about them. It’s always about you.

That’s how Tex started a small Ford dealership (3 cars) in 1951 and built it into one of the largest auto dealerships in America, with 17 brands and 22 locations. Check it out at Earnhardt.com.

Tex has been my hero and inspiration since the day we met almost 30 years ago. He is the man I aspire to be.
