We had the good fortune of connecting with Hallayah Kutcherman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hallayah, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think risks are all around us everyday. It’s deciding what to risk if it’s presented to us as an opportunity. Having the faith to sacrifice what may be comfortable for a different outcome. I have been in business for less than a year and have realized how important risks are and just how rewarding they can be as well. 2017 going into my Sophomore year of my undergrad, studying veterinary science, I risked it all. I decided to change my major on my own and transfer to Grand Canyon University, where I received my B.S in Business Management. That same summer I transferred, I took a risk after being denied by my top two desired makeup stores to work at, Ulta and Sephora, and walked into M.A.C. I originally thought I was not qualified to work at one of the world’s most renowned makeup companies. Fast forward three years later of working for their company, my biggest risk was being obedient to the calling that God put in my life and quit working for M.A.C in the middle of my Senior year. Creating HallayahSade LLC, out of pure passion and faith that God would do exactly what he said he would do. “Faith the size of a mustard seed” is all God needs to show you the vision he has for you, but it’s up to us to fulfill it or not.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Believe it or not, growing up, I was not able to wear makeup until about eighteen, due to me constantly trying to sneak and wear it, of course. Thankfully, this sparked a flame in my passion for makeup artistry. With countless hours studying makeup tutorials, from some of my still-current faves, this is where it all began. From there, I was on a hunt to find out how to fulfill this drive that was already inside. I did countless “on-the-house” makeup for friends and family, working towards bettering my craft. Getting hired at M.A.C was where I began to learn the mechanics of makeup and different skills and techniques. My brand, HallayahSade an enhanced version of you, is what it is because I never stopped believing in me and what I was capable of. The peace I feel when I am able to better someone’s day or the way that they feel when they look in the mirror, let’s me know I am walking in my purpose.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Chill and lowkey. Be it grabbing drinks at Hanny’s or embracing my inner child at the Arizona Boardwalk, or maybe even indoor skydiving at iFLY, whatever fits the vibe for the day.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I stumbled across an inspirational speaker about three years ago and he changed my mindset forever. He made me think about the time that I have already spent on this earth, and what I have to show for it. The false assumption that, tomorrow is promised, understanding that there is a generation behind you and ahead of you who need you. He taught me discipline, patience and servant leadership through videos. Never met the man in my life, but that fact that he was able to have a tremendous effect on my lifestyle, I know we all have that same light within us. He inspired me to not dim my light, but rather show others how to turn theirs on. Eric Thomas, this shoutout goes to you, walking in your purpose and helping others like me find theirs.
