Meet Heather Smith | MoxiEpoxy Owner & Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heather, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I first started creating pieces with epoxy resin, it started as a hobby but after seeing the joy it brought to those around me and encouragement from friends and family, I decided to make the leap into starting my own business and sharing my creations with the community.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The most exciting part of this craft is being able to attend the markets and craft fairs to share my creations with the community and seeing the joy it brings others. Being able to experiment with all of the different colors and techniques helps keep the pieces fun and unique to keep it apart from the competition. As a small business owner, I would have to say a huge part of my success would be owed to the friends and family that have been nothing but supportive to me. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hands down, the first place I would take anyone visiting Tucson would be up Mount Lemmon. Next up, I would make sure to visit Sonoita for some of my favorite vineyards. My top three favorite vineyards would have to be: Dos Cabezas to start for wine and delicious pizza, Arizona Hops and Vines, and then Rune Wines for their fantastic views. After that, I would show them around downtown starting at Hotel Congress for the history (plus bonus brunch at Cup Cafe!), walk around to people watch, check out the buildings and beautiful art murals, then hop into Cobra Arcade to play a few games. After that, I would head down Fourth Ave to check out the little shops, stop by The Box Yard and if we were hungry after all that – Grabbing a quick bite to eat at BOCA.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My number one supporter would be my husband, Thomas, for standing by my side and showing me nothing but love, support and encouragement during this wild ride! Next up with be my friend, Desiree Bustos. She was a huge part of the beginning of my adventures creating with epoxy. She used to do epoxy herself, but since she no longer does it, she gave me items that she no longer uses and helped me learn a lot about the do’s and don’ts of this craft as well as giving me helpful and creative ideas. Last, but not least – A huge shout-out goes to all my friends and family who have helped and supported me at various stages of this new adventure. They’ve shown me so much love and encouragement during my first year of starting up MoxiEpoxy, and I look forward to many more years to come!
