Meet Huy Nguyen | Photographer / Ecom

We had the good fortune of connecting with Huy Nguyen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Huy, how do you think about risk?
I’m all about taking risks, seriously. It’s like, I’ve always had this idea in my head that if you’re gonna go big, you’ve gotta risk big too. That doesn’t mean I just jump into things without thinking, but I definitely lean into chances more than most people I know. There have been times when things didn’t exactly work out the way I hoped. Like, there were moments when I thought I had a great idea or opportunity in front of me, and it just flopped. But here’s the thing – I don’t look back at those times and wish I hadn’t taken the leap. Every time something didn’t go right, I learned a bunch. It’s like collecting pieces of a puzzle; each risk, win or lose, gives me a piece that helps me see the bigger picture better.
And, yeah, I’ll admit my love for diving into risks might be a bit much sometimes. I’ve had my share of awesome wins where I felt on top of the world and then some pretty big stumbles that hit hard. But, I don’t let those stumbles keep me down for long. I give myself a little time to feel bummed out, maybe a day or two, to just sort of process and feel what I need to. After that, it’s back to the drawing board for me. I don’t see the point in hanging onto the what-ifs and should-haves. Life’s too short and too full of possibilities to get stuck on the downs. So, I dust myself off and get ready for the next big leap. It’s all about moving forward and keeping an eye out for the next big chance to jump at.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Alright, diving into my world, I’ve got quite the mix going on. I am in the middle of re-branding my photo biz, Heartstring Weddings (www.heartstringweddings.com) since I’ve recently moved to LA. But that’s just one piece of the puzzle. I’m also knee-deep in e-commerce, selling on platforms like Etsy and Amazon. It might seem like I’m juggling a lot, and yeah, sometimes it feels like I might be spreading myself too thin. But honestly, really fun for me and what keeps me going.
The journey hasn’t been smooth sailing. It’s involved countless 4am nights watching Youtube tutorials, experimenting to see what sticks. Challenges like getting a store banned can knock the wind out of your sails, slashing your income to zero overnight. Yet, it’s these challenges that teach resilience and the importance of bouncing back. What truly sets me apart is this blend of capturing moments and mastering the art of online sales. Each field I’m involved in is an equal part of my identity and contributes to my unique story.
I’m incredibly proud of building my ventures from the ground up, especially mastering the fundamentals of each platform. My story is a testament to the power of passion, creativity, and resilience. To anyone tuning in, my journey reflects a commitment to pursuing diverse interests, learning continuously, and embracing the challenges along the way.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my friend was coming to town, we’d have the ultimate week planned out. First stop? The Hollywood Comedy Club. We’re talking big laughs, great vibes, and a chance to maybe even rub elbows with some up-and-comers in the comedy scene. After we’ve had our fill of jokes, it’s time to dive into some amazing Korean BBQ. Trust me, it’s a game-changer. The flavors, the whole experience of cooking right at your table—it’s a must-do.
Next, we’d hit up Venice Beach. It’s a bit touristy, but a lot of fun bars along the boardwalk. The energy there is just unmatched. And because we’re all about balance, we’d spend a day tackling some of the local hikes. Runyon Canyon is on the list for its iconic views and, you know, the occasional celebrity sighting.
I’d take them to Palos Verdes to check out the cliffs. It’s breathtakingly beautiful there, and honestly, it’s a nice change of pace from the city life. It’s not too far from where I live, making it an easy getaway to nature.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Oh yeah, for sure, I’ve got to give a huge shoutout to this book I read, “The 4-Hour Work Week” by Tim Ferriss. It’s like, before I read that book, I was totally lost in how I was handling work and all. I was trying to do everything on my own, thinking that was the way to make my business boom. But, man, was I wrong. This book flipped my whole view on work and automation upside down. It hit me that I was spending way too much time on stuff that, honestly, wasn’t pushing my business forward.
Tim Ferriss talks about how important it is to delegate tasks and not get bogged down with the little things that eat up all your time. It made so much sense to me. Like, instead of spending my whole day trying to perfect every single detail and worrying about things like ROAS, I should be looking at the big picture. There are teams and agencies out there who are experts at handling the nitty-gritty details, which frees me up to focus on the stuff that really matters for growing my business. Reading that book was a total game-changer for me. It taught me to work smarter, not harder, and I think everyone trying to make it in business should check it out.
