We had the good fortune of connecting with Ian Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ian, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
I have two. The first is Jack London’s: “You can’t wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club.” It’s something to remind me that inspiration/creativity is not a guarantee at any given time, but rather something to actively pursue and be aware of. The second is David Lynch’s: “My cow is not pretty, but it is pretty to me.” This quote has consistently helped me stay grounded during the creative process. When I feel as though I am making a decision not for myself, but instead because I think it’s something that would be well-received or popular, I think of these words and how most of the art we appreciate and love was created by artists being unapologetically themselves.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We’ve been playing music around the valley since about 2016, and in that time we’ve been lucky enough to open for some cool bands at Crescent Ballroom and even the M3F festival. We’re planning on releasing a string of singles throughout 2021.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I always try to take people coming into town to Valley Bar. It has an unmistakable uniqueness to it and it’s got to be my favorite venue not only in the valley, but of all time. I feel so lucky to have gotten to play music there. I could also spend a full day at the botanical gardens. They’re one of my favorite spots here.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I don’t think I would be the same person I am today if I had never met my bandmate and close friend Isaac Kolding. Even though we differ in nearly every possible way, his truly unique perspective constantly helps me to grow and better myself in ways I don’t think I might have otherwise.
