We had the good fortune of connecting with Ifa Simmonds and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ifa, what’s your definition for success?
IFA FIT and the Equestrian Fitness Academy bring a new and alternative perspective to the equestrian culture and community. My business focuses on building equestrian athleticism through fitness, health, and wellness. There’s no common practice of the principles of athleticism amongst many levels and disciplines across the sport. There are youth, adults and professional riders everywhere and you cannot find a consensus anywhere that mentions exercise, healthy eating and mental preparation being a cornerstone in their athletic practice. That’s where I knew I had to do something, and fast. I felt there was a tremendous amount of work that could change the culture from the antiquated model to an updated, more scientific and actionable approach.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business (IFA FIT) focuses on health, fitness and wellness for equestrian riders and athletes. I created an equestrian specific program called the Equestrian Fitness Academy (EFA) to help riders improve athleticism with 4 pillars that are foundational to every rider regardless of their discipline.

I’m most proud of the direct impact I’ve been able to achieve in such a small time, especially in the current, newest phase of my business.

It certainly hasn’t been easy getting to this point in my business or career, and there are still moments and times where it can be overwhelming, however the good and the progress that I’m making far outweighs the ability for anything else to hold me back.

I overcome these challenges by understanding that I am a first to do what I do best. Currently, I’m in the pioneering phase of an industry with absolutely no blueprint on how to create lasting change for the better across an entire culture and industry. My mission and my why are the main reasons I can wake up daily with a bright smile on my face and enjoy what I do.

I want to remind the world that every experience in our lives guides us to where we are currently. Horses have always been a love of mine, but I didn’t have the proximity, capital and resources to enjoy them in my youth. However, in this phase of my life, I’ve married my passions together to create genuine change across a major culture, sport, and tight-knit community. I want to connect with more people around the world. Increasing general awareness of what I do will lend to a great number of people who can help connect me to more equestrians, organizations, and clubs to guide me on this journey to build more holistic equestrian athletes.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live close to NYC, it’s about a 30-45 minute drive from my house with views of its breathtaking skyline just over the hill from home. I’d take my friend from out-of-town to the overlook and to the city where we can find LITERALLY anything to do. That could be a 1-day or multiple day trip. I’d also take my friend to the barn to meet the horses and see closely what I do and the impact I’m able to make on a daily/weekly basis. This is a big aspect that adds happiness and fulfillment to my everyday life. There are great restaurants in New Jersey scattered all over across many counties and whatever cuisine requested is easy to dine here. In the metropolitan area there’s so much to do and see within a 60 to 90 minute drive like New York, western rural Pennsylvania, and Philadelphia to name a few. New Jersey has 130 miles of coastline with the highest concentration of ocean-side boardwalks in the US. There’s surely a beach we can pick from depending upon our mood.

area theres so much to do and see within a 60 to 90 minute drive.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My first equestrian fitness clients who always believed in me, those who pushed me and those who were ALWAYS there to help answer ‘silly’ questions while helping me navigate this VERY interesting industry. THANK YOU!
