We had the good fortune of connecting with Jace Stenersen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jace, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve been taking nature photos since the age of 9 and have had many years of encouragement from others. Before starting my own business I would often be invited to attend local art events. Seeing the joy people got out of viewing and purchasing my printed artwork made me realize that I can do way more than just post a picture on social media for people to scroll past. I can offer fine art prints to customers, and unlike social media, it won’t be forgotten about the next day. After years of support from friends, family, and happy customers, I decided to take the next big step and open up my own art gallery in June 2021. I thought to myself “what’s the worst that can happen? I’m only 19!”
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a nature photographer and I am always looking for ways to capture the subtle moments and unique perspectives that many people overlook. I spent the entirety of my childhood photographing birds and wildlife and that played a huge role in where I am today. The journey leading up to opening my art gallery wasn’t always easy. There were times I didn’t have the motivation to shoot and times I felt like I wasn’t getting anywhere as an artist. In those challenging moments I learned it is okay to step away for a bit. If it is truly your passion you will always come back to it. I have learned that patience and perseverance pays off and I have had the privilege of being featured and recognized by renowned organizations and artists. My gallery in the coastal town of Long Beach, Washington features my favorite shots printed in the finest quality prints. I offer everything from fine art prints to hoodies and mugs with my photography. What sets me apart from the others in the artist community is my age and that makes me excited for what the future holds. The world should know that there are still young entrepreneurs with passion out there and I am one of them.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’d start the adventure by riding Razors and 4-wheelers through the endless trails around the Wickenburg terrain. There is no doubt that the first place we’d eat is at my favorite local pizza place, Sundance Pizza located on the east side of Wickenburg. Spending an entire day checking out local parks such as the Hassayampa River Preserve would be a joy. And making the 5 hr drive to the Grand Canyon for a day trip would be well worth the memories! To add some contrast we’d get a taste of the big city and spend a day on the outskirts of Phoenix. Arrowhead Towne Center is a perfect place to spend the day shopping and eating great food! If we were looking to get our hair cut, we’d head to All Stylez Barbershop on our way out of the city! For our last day together we’d spend the entire day in downtown Wickenburg shopping for souvenirs to support the locals and then get served delicious Mexican food at El Ranchero.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to my friends and family for believing in me and encouraging me along the way. Shoutout to my parents who showed me the ropes and taught me good work ethic!
