We had the good fortune of connecting with Jackie Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jackie, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
Stay true to myself- I live by these words. I’ve always remained true to my style. I don’t compare myself to others and try not to get caught up on what others are doing- it’s too exhausting.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I decorate sugar cookies for all occasions- birthdays, baby showers, weddings, holidays, just because and any celebration you can think of. The part I enjoy the most is the packaging of the treats. I always want the cookies to remain the star of the show, but using packaging that highlights the artwork on the cookies is very important to me. I was a school teacher for 13 years and leaving that field was scary and exciting at the same time. It was a challenge at first, because I had to learn all aspects of running a small business while learning to perfect my craft. I’ve learned a lot of lessons and it took awhile to be fair to myself when pricing my cookies. They are a custom cookie so they will not cost the same as cookies you can buy from the store.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting, I would for sure visit local eateries and shops. I believe they have the best to offer! We’d for sure visit Federal Pizza for delicious food, Frances for some souvenirs and photos in the photo booth, AJ’s for a refreshing iced tea, Changing Hands Bookstore for calm, and then a yoga class at one of the many yoga studios.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family has always been my greatest support. They test cookies, they offer HONEST feedback even if it stings, and they encourage me to take risks and jump in and do uncomfortable things.
