We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacob Ramirez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jacob, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to work for myself. Complete freedom. I choose who I want to work with and when I want to work. The dream has always been to wake up and not feel like you’re actually going to work because I’m doing something that I enjoy. You get out of it exactly what you are willing to put into it. I have officially been in business now for just over two years and I continue to grow my business as well as myself every day.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a life long art enthusiast with just about 10 years of experience in graphic design and branding. I specialize in photo edits, illustrations, logo design, and brand development. I also provide both sourcing and production services for brand and company merchandise.
The best way to describe my business is not only a brand but a company as well. Every company is a brand and every brand is a company. The company side of things within my business is the graphic design and brand development services that I provide. While the brand side of things is my little “gift shop” of branded merchandise where you can shop for some goodies. I believe a company and brand go hand in hand and I never want to limit myself to one thing.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Depending on the time of year, Arizona has a lot to offer. From flea markets, to pop ups, festivals, First Friday’s, and local mountain bike and hiking trails. Arizona truly has it all. I’m a huge concert head, I’m always in the hunt for the next concert. I think the first thing I would want to do if a friend visited for a week is to take a stroll through downtown Phoenix and visit our amazing local museums, maybe catch a show, and grab a bite to eat. I’m a huge foodie! I love Filipino, Vietnamese, Japanese, Chinese, Mexican, Italian, and many different types of food. On a normal week you can find me at my favorite local boba tea place in Chandler called Rapha Tea. If I have the day off I’ll usually get some brunch at this Chinese restaurant in Phoenix called Great Wall, which has the best dim sum in the state or you can never go wrong with getting brunch at the Farm at South Mountain for some farm to table meals. Maybe even catch some dinner in Mesa at one of my favorite taco shops called Tacos Tijuanas, which has the best street tacos in East Mesa. Whatever the type of food my friend is craving, I’m sure I can find a restaurant that won’t disappoint. I would also want to take my friend on a road trip while they’re here so they can see the beauty of Arizona and everything it has to offer, especially if they’re an outdoorsy and nature enthusiast like me. We could go to Payson or Sedona to escape the heat and find some nice swimming holes or hiking trails. Or visit Flagstaff for some camping and during the winter to play around in some snow. A lot of people don’t know how diverse Arizona is. It’s not just tumbleweeds and desert.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like dedicate this shoutout to my parents David & Rory Ramirez because without them none of this would be possible. And also to the love of my life Kristel Ferrer, my number one fan, my partner in crime, the light to my flame. She continues to keep me on my toes and encourages me to be my best self.
