We had the good fortune of connecting with Jahmar Anthony and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jahmar, why did you pursue a creative career?
Honestly I had other jobs like I worked in a bank , junk yard , parking lot attendant but none of those jobs made me feel happy . I always felt empty in those jobs. Music made me feel complete. From seeing people dancing and having a good time it made me know inside myself that music is my path I needed to go..

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am dj who is a musical counselor of sorts. I use music to express feelings and vibes. What makes me different than most Djs is I am very active on the mic. I engage my crowd and bond with them On a one on one level. I have had a rough journey that nothing was really given to me. I had to prove myself with each venue I ever played in. The stigma with many venues was they thought that because I’m Jamaican I only play Reggae music. I over came these stigmas by showing them I am a very versatile dj. One of the biggest things I have learned in this business is to be genuine. I think that’s why people love me they see I genuinely love music and that this is more than a hobby to me. I would like the world to see that I am a guy who built a brand out of the mud. No handouts or cheat codes just hardwork and a lot of late nights.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
S/o to my kids , my parent’s, my wife and my artist A1 Pharoah . They always push me to keep going even when I wanna quit
