We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaimee Reyna and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jaimee, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Coming from a background working in the medical field I never envisioned myself being a baker, let alone starting my own baking business. For me, baking has been a stress outlet and a fun (and delicious) way for me to express my creativity. When I had a job change back almost four years ago I decided it would be fun to go to school for baking and pastry making, just so I could learn more about baking. That is when I was able to hone in on my skills and really develop my passion for baking. During school I would share my baked goods with my coworkers, give it to my friends, and bring it to my offices to get feedback on the recipes, what they liked and didnt, and just to share the sweetness in general! Then people started to ask if I was able to bake for them, if they could pay me to make a cake for a birthday or a pie for a holiday. That’s when the seed first got planted in my mind that I could actually turn this passion of mine into a business. Fast forward a few years, many baking successes (and failures) and I have been able to actually start my bakery and have paying customers. Right now Sprinkle Me Sweet Bakery is my side hustle as I do still have my full time job, but every single order I make gets me one step closer to being able to pursue my baking full time!

What should our readers know about your business?
Sprinkle Me Sweet Bakery started out as a fun pastime that grew into a passion, and from there developed into a small business. I’ve always liked to use baking as a stress outlet (I also have a massive sweet tooth!) and back a few years ago I started to share my baked goods with friends, family, and coworkers. As time went on I started to get asked if I take baking orders, or if they could pay me to bake for them and from there the idea of Sprinkle Me Sweet Bakery was born. Right now my bakery is my side hustle as I still have a full time job and I am so excited to see where this little bakery takes me as it continues to grow! I focus primarily on custom cakes, cupcakes, and drop cookies, although I do take special requests for other baked goods (pies, brownies, etc). For me, my favorite part about being a baker is knowing that you get to be part of a special moment or event in someone’s life. Whether it be a birthday, wedding, or baby shower, there is always a need for dessert and to be the one who provides that for their celebration is such an honor! As a baker there is no better feeling than when a customer tells you they love their cake! It seriously brings such joy to my heart! I believe everything tastes better when it’s baked with love and I’m just trying to sprinkle a little sweetness into everyone’s lives one cake at a time!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m originally from Michigan (Midwest is best!) so for me, I really enjoy Arizona during the fall and winter time! Whenever I have visitors come from out of town there are a few places I try and take them every trip! For hiking my favorite mountains in the valley are the Superstitions! It’s a little bit of a drive but totally worth it! The hiking trails aren’t overly crowed and there are hikes for all different fitness levels that give greats views of the entire valley, treasure loop trail is one of my favorites! You can also stop by Goldfield Ghostown on your way out for some food and drinks, it’s a fun little place! If they are a more active person I think it’s fun to hike Camelback, especially if it’s in December so you can visit Camelback Santa at the top to see if you were naughty or nice this year! I always try and get a sunset in at Hole in the Rock at Papago Park. If you can catch it on a non busy day, it’s so peaceful and the PHX skyline is beautiful. I really enjoy going out for breakfast or brunch so I take my friends to Daily Dose in old town, they hands down have the best mimosas (the most amazing champagne to oj ratio)! I usually follow it up with a walk around the shops and art galleries in old town and make a stop by the Scottsdale museum and the LOVE sculpture. In the winter, the Christmas lights at Coach House are a must see, it’s my favorite time of the year! When I’m in the mood for a sweet treat I like to take my visitors to Mary Coyle’s or Novel for some of the best ice cream, it’s so delicious! And lastly, First Fridays DT are always such a great time with all of the live music, food trucks, and vendors!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to all my friends, family, and my coworkers, who were some of my first paying customers! Thank you so much to all of you for being my official taste testers, biggest hype squad, and for always giving me the most honest feedback, for better or for worse! You’ve helped make me a better baker and without all of your love, support, and words of encouragement Sprinkle Me Sweet Bakery would not exist today!
