We had the good fortune of connecting with James Jewkes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi James, what do you attribute your success to?
Process… refine…process…
No matter what discipline I’m in, music, theater, art. The production terms I use are consistent and the process dosn’t change much. Every project starts with setting intention to begin conceprualizing a vision, and then following the proper steps to achieve the desired esthetic.

I believe that every role is valuable and prefer putting people in positions of strength rather then forcing everything by myself. It takes a village and teamwork is truly the best way to create The natural cross checks and balances within creative respect for everybody’s involvement and healthy boundaries around overstep is key. Someone may have a differnt way of doing something and that’s a great thing to play off of and make something fresh. Only those who have disciplined their own ego can truly appreciate collaboration. It took me a long time to learn that and has been the most influential aspect of my success.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m currently finishing my first orchestra and performing in several original music projects of differnt genres. I have my production company that is over 100 albums in production: Impresario. Im booking a large hip hop and art show with international talent, shout out to Visible Planets, about to shoot my first video installment for my orchestra/ film- Eagles > Planes.
Catch me perform it live solo guitar and story teller mode, it’s a fun experience

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite place to hang is Tubac,AZ. Check out art and think about the Apache experience of that land. End the day with a cold drink from Abe’s Tumacacori bar… best bar in AZ!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Birdseed Collective in Globeville, CO. I learned everything about community work and alot of problem solving from working with Anthony Garcia Sr. And so many other great artists. Truly great to see how art can transform community work into meaningful assistance. Check out what they do at:
