We had the good fortune of connecting with Janet Havenga and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Janet, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Like many women, I have grown up around diets, eating disorders, and a multitude of expectations about body image and responsibility. Many stories guided my direction in and around a career in Health and Fitness but it is truly my own journey where I learned the missing link in the extremely loud world of what’s healthy and overstressing workouts. I like most struggled with my weight, diets worked while I was on them and workouts left me feeling sore with out much show of results A long story short, I discovered that until I could appreciate my body and myself for that matter I would forever be punishing and demanding more than my body and mind could deliver. bottom line, no one likes to work for a mean boss and that is what I was being to my body. It was about 10 full years of ups and downs and trial and error. The more I learned to nurture and not torture the healthier I became. I healed my body from PCOS, a hormone disorder that plagues thousands of women today and usually is accompanied by pre-diabetic conditions. I also healed my IBS, anxiety, and mild depression . I also quit smoking and believe I scarcely dodged the edge of alcoholism. It is my mission to blaze this trail for every woman and man to see that health is not something you get, but something you have. Illness is something you get and through a journey of healing through self-compassion, diets, and pushing your body, become a thing of the past. and you are living a life more inlined with how you want to feel!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
After a 15-year weight loss struggle failing at all the diets, medications for hormone disorders, and battling depression I found a new way. I learned that I did not have a problem, that mainstream society was the problem and it was the biggest factor in my constant failure. We are taught about calories, made to feel guilty about indulging, and constantly being bombarded with why we are not good enough as we are. I turned my life around. I lost 80lbs dropped my medications, healed my body but the biggest transformation was that I learned to appreciate my body instead of punishing it. Through this journey, I have created a program that incorporates weight loss, stress management, and personal care or mindset so that women all over the world can feel empowered to be the very best version of themselves and faster than I did it for myself.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Definitely, my own back yard would be the start. Locally the botanical gardens, and of course a great spring training game would be high on the list. We would also spend some time dining and spending a day in Care Free shopping for local and had made finds. Getting out of the city and exploring Prescott one day, and Sedona the next is a must-do. Im about everything out in nature.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My story is filled with teachers, mentors, experiences, and a whole slew of life lessons. Of course, my parents are large influencers of how I have shaped my life as well as all my teachers, friends, and lessons guiding me to turn my life around and truly create anything I could imagine while I lived internationally. More recently, the tribe that has continued to encourage me to grow and definitely not least my truly amazing husband who continues to support my most crazy ideas.
