We had the good fortune of connecting with Janica Sampang and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Janica, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Checking it off my bucket list! I have always wanted to own my business as I am surrounded by entrepreneurs in my family. However, I just never had the light bulb shine on me… until recently. As an aspiring physician in the middle of the application cycle and a full time job as a medical biller/coder, there is no doubt my plate was full. There was a point I was not prioritizing my mental and physical health. I looked at myself in the mirror and said “Wow I look terrible”. I needed to do something about it. A few beauty tools and pep talks from my family is when I realized SELF CARE should be a priority! As someone who loves skin care, it had then hit me to open a Beauty Store emphasizing the importance of prioritizing skin care and self care. I had then started off with Cryo Sticks as my initial product. I practiced my sales pitch to my mother and grandmother who had loved the product from the start.

You may ask, then owning a business is just adding to my plate? Well, yes BUT mentally it was a great breaker from all things medical school and work. It allows me to spend some time being creative in creating content for social media.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am most excited about how Cosmo Cryo encourages Self Care. Many people face struggles on a daily basis and don’t realize the importance of mental and physical health. If our brand has the ability to provide customers a sense of mental break and relaxation through a skin care routine, then we have accomplished our ultimate goal. The brand is also intended to exhibit luxury from the presentation and the quality of the products. I take pride in assembling each order keeping it at a high standard. As a business owner who has no background in business, there are day to day challenges I need to overcome. For example, cost analysis and creating content consistently requires time and effort. However, I thrive on learning each day to improve every aspect of the company.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My go to is Downtown Phoenix! There are so many activities to do in downtown phoenix but this would definitely be a foodie trip. My favorite breakfast spot is The Vig Fillmore, their Ladera French Toast is exquisite! For lunch, the Welcome Diner would be a must as the ambiance and food is nice. For dinner, Compass Arizona Grill would provide the upscale ambiance with a gorgeous view of the city. To end the night you will most likely catch us singing karaoke at The Duce. Realistically we would probably be dancing for the rest of the night. Another evening activity would also be catching events at The Crescent Ballroom, you can never go wrong with enjoying live music and getting a chance to chat with people discussing music tastes. To name a few more spots, Lucky Strike is a great place for bowling and drinks and Cobra Arcade Bar requires skills in arcade gaming (or you can chill and listen to the live DJ).

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to give credit to the strong women in my life. My mother, grandmothers, sister in law, and my boyfriend’s mother who inspire me each day to be great women like them.
