Meet Jasinta Sanchez | Massage Therapist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasinta Sanchez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasinta, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I feel like being an true entrepreneur is all about the risk. You are choosing to take your passion/dream and invest a huge amount if not all of your resources, learnings, money/investment, time and energy into creating your own business. You are risking the a stable and secure job/career where you are making someone else dreams a reality, and putting it all on the line for your dream, and that is scary! The risk is what makes dreams a reality. Without the push of going all in its just a great idea. Even the thought of making that leap, to risk it all for your dream, can send people into a panic. At least that is how I see it for me. For years I worked for a spas or other massage practices where I was helping out others dreams come into reality and as lovely as it was most of the time to be apart of that process I was left with a unfulfilled urning for more. When COVID started I was at a crossroads. At the time I was working at a Med Spa that I wasn’t feeling appreciated and was not in alignment any longer so I decided to take the risk and go out on my own during the hardest time in recent history for a massage therapist. Mainly because there was a global pandemic that left people in a state of fear to even be around new people. But that didn’t matter, I believed in myself and I made it happen. With in 6 months I had about 15 clients a week and when I left Portland 3 years later I had around 28 clients a week with mainly only word of mouth referrals. And then life threw another curve ball at me. I had created this thriving business but then my daughter who was 12 at the time was experiencing racist name calling and threats of ignorant kids I knew that it was time to move from Portland when she asked if we could move somewhere else closer to home (New Mexico). Even though my business was thriving and had so much potential to grow even more I will of course put my daughters safety and well being first. So we decided that we would move to Phoenix, AZ when school started and moved in 2 months. This is a risk that I didn’t plan for and I pretty much lost a business I had worked so hard to create. However as a mother I truly feel like listening and putting my daughter first is my primary job and I would absolutely risk anything for her. That brings me to my current situation where I had to wait 4 months to transfer my massage license then start building my clientele from scratch. I soon realized that the massage world is very different in Phoenix compared to Portland. I freaked out a bit and got a part time job at a chiropractors office as well as a spa job at a chain membership company and then in desperate energy signed up with Groupon. Now all of these may be ok and work for some, no judgement, however the rate that I was getting paid was a 1/3 of what I was use to and it was completely out of alignment with me and my company. I had a Aww Ahh moment and knew that it was time to take the risk and risk it all again. So I rejoined a BNI group and quit my 2 jobs and did my best to use Groupon to lock in some new clients who your be willing and glad to pay my normal price. Taking this risk means that I have to go within and be positive, strategic and take the proper action to make my dream a reality once again. I have noticed every time I take a huge leap of faith and risk it all I discover so many amazing qualities such as inner strength, confidence in our skill and knowledge, relentless positivity, strategies, networking and all of the other qualities you tap into when you are a entrepreneur. Risk seems to be the magic ingredient in pushing your dream into reality.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is Yours Essentially Healing LLC. I have a office in Tempe, AZ where I take clients for massage where I specialize in deep tissue, sports, injury, and lymphatic massage. I also am a Reiki Master, Shamanic Practitioner, NLP Master and Transformational Breath Worker Facilitator. I have 19 years off and on of massage experience where I have have taken countless hours of modalities and special training as well as investing 10 of thousands of $ into my craft. I also offer In Home Spa and Retreat Parties. I have Girls Night In Spa Parties where we bring the spa to you. We bring robes slippers, spa decor, lavender lemonade and hot tea. you get 20 minute massage, facial and foot treatments. The Holistic Retreat to You is where we bring a mini retreat to you. It includes a 20 minute group session of sound healing and guided meditation then individual treatments of massage, reiki and tarot reading. I wanted to create a platform for women owned businesses and practitioners to come together and promote each other while pampering and healing other women. Now of course we would love to work on men as well however i find that the majority is women. I encourage my contractors to bring marketing material and sell any service or products that they want. I launched this part of my business also to highlight my bath and body product line Yours Essentially Products where I make whipped shea butter, massage oil candles, bath soaks, body scrubs, bath teas and have a drop shipping business of products I feel align with my company.
No it has not been very easy as I started out on my own during the beginning of Covid Pandemic in August of 2020. I had to hold on until the vaccine was available to start my In Home Parties. The bath and body product business is very saturated and hard to get into. All of my training has been very expensive and put me into debt and I did all of this with absolutely no help as a single mother in a new city not once but then I had to close down and move to a new city with a whole new game plan as the massage industry is completely different. In addition to these challenges I recently got stick with pancreatitis and can no longer drink alcohol so for the first time since being a teenager, and obviously not while I was pregnant or breast feeding, I was forced to be completely sober. Honestly it is a good thing in the long run but boy does it make it harder to go through these challenges without my outlet that I was so use too. This has actually allowed me to see thing much clearer and after I went through a real reality check, I almost went in to septic shock, this made me appreciate my journey and my loved ones. It also made me think of the type of person I wanted to be without any limitations and realizing what limitations I was allowing that were holding me back from the life I truly was trying to reach with my successes. Being clear minded I see that I am in control more than I realized. I’m in control of allowing the past limiting beliefs to influence my present and future. I’m in control of who I allow to be in my world and if you are toxic in anyway that might trigger me then you have to go, as life is to short to allow negative and ill willed people to take up any more time or space in my world. It put me in a new frequency of surrounding myself with inspiring positive people, energy and mindset. I feel that every challenge life throws at us allows for a choice to be made and its your responsibility to own those choses as they create the person your show up to be. I would like to have my story inspire others to realize that if you have a dream no matter what challenges or obstacles might be in your way they are they to push you to get hungry for your dream to bring out the fierce true version of who are are in the depths of your soul and push you beyond what you limiting beliefs of fear and insecurities that keep you from taking the risk and creating whatever you want in this life.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well I am still relatively new to Phoenix as I moved here in September but i have a few new favorite places. I live in Gilbert which has such a cute downtown where we would have to eat breakfast at Snoozed or another favorite breakfast place would be Hash Kitchen in Tempe. I have noticed that there is so much shopping in Phoenix so maybe I would take my bestie to Tempe market place or the Fashion Mall in Scottsdale. We would also have to walk around and check out all of the cute shops in old town. If she is in the mood to go out to a club I would take her down to old town for a night and party at the club which in my opinion don’t enjoy anymore mainly because I can be most of who is there mom. But my bestie loves to dance so we might end up at Rusty’s cowboy bar. I would definitely take her for a hike at South Mountain and since she is here for a week I would absolutely insist that we spend at least one to two days in Sedona. I just love the Briar Patch in as i plan on hosting my second retreat there in the fall. we would of course do the vortex tours as well as the night gazing tour and spend at least a few hours just strolling through the adorable downtown of Sedona. Since we would be in Sedona we would have to get a healing treatment or physic reading. Sometime during the trip I would definitely treat her to a spa day at my office but it would also be fun to indulge with her and go to a resort up in Scottsdale and get a fancy spa treatment and enjoy the amenities.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes I would love to send a shout out to BNI. BNI is a Business Networking International group where we meet once a week at the same time. It is the best way to network and build up your business. You are literally choosing to surround your self with other business owners who not only send you referrals but are an amazing support system as well as become your business family. I owe lots of my success to BNI. BNI standards push you to be a ethical and have high standards in your business core values. I had leaned so much from other businesses as well as made so many connections i never would have expected. Also I have to give a shout out to my daughter Zoe.. Since the day I found out I was pregnant with her she has pushed me to be the best version of myself and no matter what the risk is she is always my biggest cheerleader and reason to be the believe in my self and present my business in the best light possible to make her proud of me and my dream and vison of where I want to take my company to.
