We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jasmine, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve been cooking in the hospitality industry since i was 18 years old. I’ve worked in many environments from fine dining to huge stadiums. I got to a spot in my career where i just wanted to try something new! I hadn’t really done much baking and decided to start learning at home on my down time. As i got better with my baking and recipes, i decided to start working on my decoration and piping skills, i completely fell in love with it! I found it so calming and love the freedom and creativity of cake decorating.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As i got started i realized there are many challenges with getting started! Putting your business out there and building a clientele is not as easy as you’d think. I definitely took lots of time, patience, persistence to get where I am today! There were many times i went weeks without an order or inquiry. Those times can get discouraging but you just have to keep pushing, keep networking,and promoting your business! That consistency brought me more and more customers and really helped grow my business!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A lot of my practice and encouragement came from family and friends that recognized my skills. I would make them cakes for birthdays and other occasions. They would constantly tell me that I should do more with my talents and consider starting my own business! I was skeptical about it and did think I was ready. They still continued to push me and even took it upon themselves to start gathering pictures of my past cake to create a portfolio for me. Without all if their encouragement i may have never took that step!
