We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Phillips and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jason, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The success of my project is supported by my amazing friends and family. They make up the closest thing I have to a team and without them I’d be pretty far off. My “accountabili-buddies” that keep me focused when I’m dreaming more than doing. I know that all can be achieved with the right mentality and support system.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I got into DJing in 2017 when my best friend gave me an understanding of the equipment and a solid round of heckling my first few attempts. I didn’t mind because I was too fascinated with the new “rabbit hole” I was starting to explore. I see now that is the energy I want to bring to my performances. A pioneer spirit into a fun and freeing journey. I love to find psychedelic almost dreamy sounds and harmonize that with the deep funky driving bass lines I know are out there. It has been an amazing journey getting into the industry. The biggest challenge for myself and I think alot of creatives when they are starting has been marketing… I really just perform because it is my favorite thing to do. I focus on that primarily and hope the other aspects will fall into place.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was vising and they wanted to see AZ my way, I’d start with a chill hike up camelback and get a 360 view of the valley. I’d have to show them Crazi’s Hot Chicken. Probably slide into a fun bar like Undertow or Malinda’s alley. Depending of the night of the week we’d probably go see some of the local crew spin house music at either, House Mondays at Cobra Bar, Melrose House: SVRPVNTLAB Thursday at Hi-Score, or Big Fun Friday at Barsmith. If we can catch a show at the legendary Shady Park that would be great too.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I give alot of credit to the local Arizona promoters and event organizers: idgaFNK
And all my individual friends, fans, and family that fill up the dancefloor.
