We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Helgeson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor of the success of our brand this far I believe is quality and consistency. Quality has been a part of our foundation since the beginning. We filter all of our decisions through our quality standard to make sure we are providing the best fleur de sel in the world. Consistency for us is a daily struggle. We know that consistency in marketing and branding is so important. We created a set of brand guidelines and we use to help us stay track aesthetically. This document is game-changer; and if you don’t have one, you need one. We also try to always stay consistent with photographers and graphic designers. We believe this is so important so that our brand followers get to know us and what we represent and can pick us out even without our actual brand name on it. To me that represents brand consistency success.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a pediatric nurse by trade. Turned mom + entrepreneur/ Biz owner. \ Our business is created by my amazing mother and I. Although I must give her most of the credit. She has instilled in me the power of fresh ingredients; including the passion for fresh, non processed salt. This fleur de sel is actually THE fleur de sel I grew up with in my home. We are able to source in directly from Ile de Re, France. It comes to us so incredibly fresh and is truly the best in the world. We tasted a ton before we circled back around to our original first love! Something many of you may not know is that my mom is actually legally blind now. She has macular degeneration that has taken her central vision. She relies on her peripheral and remains so positive and vibrant and an AMAZING cook. She still helps so much with the business and is able to remain very much a part of SEE SALT®, the idea of our business name now has a whole new meaning. At the time when we named our business we had no idea this would be a struggle for her. With all that being said, if you ever get a crooked label, just smile and think of my amazing mama. Everyones journey is different. Mine has been a slower journey but I am proud of it. I have slowly and organically grown a brand that is strong. Our business is solid. We have worked through many of our kinks. Now we just need to scale! We have so many exciting things on the horizon.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Itinerary: Morning bike ride up to La Grande Orange for coffee Shopping up at Kierland/Quarters Lunch at Blanco tacos Happy hour at Vecina Dinner in the desert with Cloth and Flame via hot air balloon ride!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Small business success belongs to the community in which it was born. We owe a huge thank you to so many people that have helped us throughout the years. I would love to mention a few; Eve Gonzalez our graphic designer. Without her we would not have had the leg up of beautiful packaging. She designed our brand guidelines nearly 4 years ago and we genuinely believe many of the opportunities we received off the bat came from our packaging looking so gorgeous. First impressions are everything; even with products. Once people tasted our salt then we knew we REALLY had them. My friend Ana from Urbana was our first retail location. She takes many small local business owners under her wing and helps them get brand recognition in her beautiful store front! I also have to mention Bo from Uptown market. Bo is such a cheerleader and hard worker for ALL our small business’ here in Phoenix. She puts 100% into everything she does to help promote and support the Uptown Farmers Market. Come visit us there 8-1!
