We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Pate, Owner of Calibrate Pilates and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I would say remaining authentically “me” has helped maintain the success of my brand. Since my business/brand is ME, I have always felt it was important to keep consistent with who I am, what I say, and what I offer. The moment I step away from that, it will show and affect my business. Although I’ve grown as a person in these 6+ years of my career, I try my hardest to make sure that I’m only changing factors that will benefit my clients and add to my success.

What should our readers know about your business?
For more than 6 years, I have been a huge believer of the Pilates method and all of its benefits. I have worked with countless clients who have had great success within their time of working with me. Seeing their success was the reassurance I needed to create my own Pilates brand, so in 2020, I founded Calibrate Pilates LLC. I did this because I have a huge passion for teaching others about the movement and alignment of their own bodies. I also have a huge passion for teaching others how to teach. This is why I started the Mat Pilates Teacher Training program through Calibrate, in the hopes of instilling some of my knowledge into other hopeful teachers. Of course with branching out on your own, there are challenges, most of which are within our own heads. It’s the fear of the unknown that has held me back quite a few times. With that said, the reward for the risk is so much sweeter once those challenges are overcome. I have found that talking to the right people in the right places can help you get further along. Asking for help and advice of people who have “been there and done that” has definitely been a driving force for this business.

At the end of the day, I have to remember my drive aka my why. And my why are my clients. My professional athletes who are stronger, better and faster than they used to be. My MS/stroke survivor clients who are doing things they were once told they could “never do again”. My 75 year old client who can hold a plank for over 2 minutes….THEY are my whys. And I believe that through Calibrate Pilates, I will be able to reach more people on a much bigger scale to potentially help them become better versions of themselves.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m more on the “low key” side so it would most likely consist of taking a Pilates class (duh) at Remedy Pilates, then grabbing breakfast and an Iced Tea and La Grande Orange. Then we’d head to The Montelucia to enjoy our spa reservations at the Joya spa and hang out by their pool the rest of the day. To get a little taste of AZ nightlife we would probably have dinner at Toca Madera or Maple and Ash.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people I could dedicate a shout out to… But one in particular would be my mentor Kelly Snailum. She is who trained me in all modalities of Pilates and has believed in me since day one. She has empowered me with sharing her knowledge, tools and resources to become the Pilates instructor that I am today. I can promise you I would not be on the path that I’m on if it were not for her guidance.
